That list I posted just shows how powerful Mass Effect as a whole is. It's easily the biggest western franchise in gaming these days.

Man, I feel like if you pulled Snake/Liquid and Crono/Lavos out of that waste of a division and put Charizard/Blastoise and Tifa/Aeris in somewhere where they'd get cracks at Samus/Ridley type opponents, this bracket could be ten times as interesting. As it is... there's two, at a stretch three, divisions worth much (Phoenix Wright's and the Pokemon Trainers' are good, with Seifer/Squall's being the possibly interesting one). Finals could be totally uneventful.

If you wanted to cut it down to 39 days, then round 2 would also have to be 12 hour matches as well. But 47 days is good enough for me. It makes the contest more bearable at least.

It feels weird to have a 24 hour break from the contest before the final match. I wonder if there will be a poll on the day that there will be no match at all?

Pretty much. Don't expect many people at all to take that upset. Saren is a nothing entrant and is only in the far weaker ME game. For that rivalry to have any chance, it will have to be carried completely by Shepard. I can buy a rivalry being carried by Link or Samus, but Shep? No way. Not even FemShep!

X/Zero as a 1 seed? That has to be the highest Guru nom ever! And to think, I was worried it wouldn't make the cut. I also like how prominent they are in the banner!

X/Zero > Mario/Bowser would be the greatest result in contest history if it happened.

Kind of disappointed with some of the seeding though. Would like to have seen X/Zero go up against one of the weaker NNers

Also, another Squall/Sora matchup? Ugh.

And what the hell is going on in Phoenix Wright's division? That's a mess.

Hey, I just got an idea. Since we're having a 24 hour break before the final, SB could set-up a match for 3rd place instead of a random PotD before the final...

I asked Bacon if there will be a poll during the 24 hour break. It just feels weird not having a poll for an entire 24 hour period. The last time there was no poll for an entire 24 hours would be way back in 2005, plus it's happened several times prior to 2005.

I'll have to wait until next week to get a response from him.

Are we, now? Sonic's had two tough battles with Kirby in the past, splitting them. He got 48.20% on the pink puffball in a fourway with Sephiroth and Dante in there, neither of whom would appear to have too much overlap with the two platforming stars, but then in a 1v1, he got 54.61%. However, I would imagine that Meta Knight is probably a good deal stronger than Dr. Robotnik. Sonic might still be able to pull off the win, but I think Kirby's got a good chance of pulling the upset...again.

Yeah, but fighting game characters other than Ryu have a tendency to bomb so badly in this contest. Sure, Subby and Scorp have both had nice runs, but I don't think they match up with Leon and I think Ada's stronger than you think she is. She's got a career record of 2-2, which isn't great, but it's decent enough--and no, they weren't both in the Female Bracket. Also, TJF. Hardly a good reason to pick an entrant in a 1v1 unless it was close to begin with, but it could serve as a decent complement to Leon's natural contest strength.

Right, because Chrono Trigger has been worth a damn in contest battles any time in the last half-decade. Yeah, Crono made that amazing run to the '08 finals, but the writing's been on the wall for a long time--as strong as CT is in Board 8 contests, the casuals don't give a crap about a game that was released in the mid-90s and hasn't had a sequel in over a decade (and the main characters of the original weren't even in that sequel.)

Since the contest will start on November 2nd, we can look forward to a "Which scheduled November release are you most looking forward to?" poll, because that month will have some of the most hyped up games of the year. If Skyward Swords bombs hard in that poll and loses to Skyrim, maybe I'll consider Skyward Sword a non-factor in this contest.

Sonic gave Kirby an easy 55/45 last year, and that's clearly a more accurate representation of their true strengths than the Kirby upset. Meta-Knight may be stronger than Robotnik, but the Sonic/Robotnik rivalry is pretty iconic. I know noms are a dubious metric to judge anything, but I'm surprised Robotnik even outgunned Knuckles and Shadow to get in. I think that alone is testament to the quality of the rivalry. Also, Kirby and MK's rivalry is probably weak here. I bet MK gets the lion's share of his strength from his awesome design and Brawl. The Kirby games are so damn weak on this site that the rivalry can't mean much to most people.
