A quick Google search tells me that the word literally means, "in a literally manner, word for word" or as an intensifier as already mentioned. If my definition of a d-pad working correctly is a controller that correctly reads the movements you've made with it's d-pad... the 360 one does not work correctly. You can argue that no extra emphasis was needed, but I'm not sure how it was wrong. I'd understand if I said something like "I'm literally sweating my balls off" since that's kind of impossible.
