I'm moving there for work in 2 weeks and am curious if any of my B8 brothers are there.

About an hour north. Pretty sure I've seen a couple, just can't remember who.

Born and raised. Where are you moving from?

Sault Ste. Marie, in Northern Ontario. The office I'll be working at is in North York, so I'm hoping to get a place nearby.

I don't know about uptown in North York-ish, but getting a place downtown is awfully expensive.

Right smack in downtown Toronto.

More of a B8 lurker than brother, though...

Ya, looking online, downtown apartments are like $300-$400 more than in North York.

I'm wondering what Black Turtle's seeing also. I'm paying something like $1160 a month, so, yeah. On the other hand, my sister paid something like $900 and she was in a roach motel, quite literally.

If there's one thing I'd recommend, it's doing your research beforehand...

Definitely get something in North York. Do NOT buy anything downtown, especially if your workplace is in North York. That'd be totally counterproductive. I'm actually looking around for a place right now because I'm gonna be moving out soon so I can tell you firsthand that downtown living would not be a smart idea.

Oh man I totally missed the whole "North York" part (I zeroed in on the "Toronto" part... I also misread North York as New York, the f***'s wrong with me)

Yeah don't live downtown in that scenario, baaaad idea. North York should have lots of decent spots... good luck!

From what I'm seeing, average in downtown Toronto is between $1200-1600 for a 1 bedroom. I saw a nice place on Yonge between Sheppard and Finch for $1200 which is a 5 minute walk from where I work and a subway station.

The nice thing is that I have cousins living down there, and they offered to let me stay with them for a few weeks while I look for a place, so I don't have to rush.

I'm pretty sure you can find a cheaper place a little farther north. You could probably hit $800'ish a month if you were to go somewhere like Major Mac and Yonge and just took the bus to work (assuming you were willing to.) The Richmond Hill area, or basically anywhere within York Region will be MUCH cheaper than the Toronto/ Yonge area of North York area. Up to you though.

Ya, I still need to talk to some Toronto friends/relatives for what they think. The nice thing about being close to Yonge is being close to work/the subway, but I need to weigh my options.
