I dunno about that...Bush's approval is rising, it isn't far from Obama's at this point. Time heals all wounds, people only remember the good not the bad, etc.

Yeah, in a heads-up Perry/Obama race, Perry'd be the favorite (though by an extremely slim margin). If you don't think his jobs record and fiscal conservatism would appeal to people in this dire an economic situation, then it's time to ask some meat-and-potatoes Americans.

Bush and the economy killed McCain's chances. There was no way he was going to win that election short of Obama publicly announcing he was a Communist on the day before the election or something like that.
This is a complete lie and it dishonors you to knowingly spread such garbage.
As I recall, McCain was doing okay but not doing great with the really conservative base. So he was like "gotta get me one of them far right conservatives" and grabbed her. She spent the rest of the campaign torpedoing him by looking dumb, botching interviews, and dabbling in racism. It's fair to say that once Palin was on board McCain had no chance of winning.
Obama isn't dropping the Northeast and West, and Perry won't drop the deep South and his home state. I have a very hard time imaging Obama losing Pennsylvania to someone like Perry, so basically, Perry needs Florida. Perry needs the old people state and just spent ten minutes defending his writing that social security is a Ponzi scheme.

Every time I think that Obama is screwed the Republicans remind us how insane and unelectable they are

Romney will win New Hampshire against Obama though, and would have a shot at Maine, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Oregon, and Washington. Plus I think Romney would have Nevada, Colorado, and New Mexico more or less wrapped up.

Palin also made McCain's age a factor in the campaign. Mostly due to the idea that 'If McCain does die in office, do we really want to run the risk of President Palin?'

You recall wrong.
It was the economy turning into a disaster and Bush, McCain, AND Obama supporting TARP that torpedoed the campaign. This happened shortly, but not immediately, after he selected Palin. She "botched" interviews that were intentionally designed and edited to discredit her, yes. Nobody cared except the people who already hated her anyway.

I think most people are increasingly aware that corporations are pulling record profits at a time when unemployment is quite high. We can thank fiscal conservatives for that and I doubt most people want any more of that than already exists.
regardless of what you think about social security, the point was that the old people in florida who rely on it TO LIVE are not gonna be too receptive to someone making attacks on social security.
....but considering our governor is rick scott, never underestimate floridians ability to vote against their interests.

God forbid some seniors oppose having their grandchildren born into debt slavery and forced to pay into a broken system from which they will never see a return.

But I'm not so sure you're right in any case. Look at Ron Paul. He continues to stand up there and tell the truth in a pack of liars and panderers. It's working a hell of a lot better now than it did four years ago. I guess that happens when you've been consistently right about everything for the better part of four decades.

couldn't she also not name a court decision she disagreed with? it's all vague in my memory now, but I do seem to recall some pretty basic questions she failed that any candidate would've been asked and no amount of editing could've fixed.

Every single one of those prisoners cost the state inane amounts of money to put to death due to appeals, retrials, etc. It's literally cheaper just to let them sit in the corner of their cell and think about what they've done for the rest of their lives.

The editing comes from the fact that they did about five hours worth of interviewing and cherry-picked the worst fifteen minutes of it. They didn't air ANY of her responses on her stronger issues, and only aired the attack questions intentionally designed to look dumb.
Yeah, she helped them by providing 15 minutes worth of dumb material, but it's still dishonest and wrong.

Never seen a more blatant case of missing the f***ing point in my entire life.
No, you're the one who's missing the point. The economic argument against the death penalty is inherently flawed, because the death penalty IN AND OF ITSELF is not economically disadvantageous. The way we choose to go about it is, but that way could be changed. Texas could change the law and say that as soon as someone is sentenced to death, they pull out a pistol and shoot him in the head that very second. Then it would be MUCH cheaper.
