Tonight, for the first time since 2008, fourteen GameFAQs users will enter the Board 8 Big Brother "House" and embark on a Autumn-long, three-month struggle for power and fortune, all with one goal in mind: to be the last one standing.
Every week, the house guests compete for power, and each week they will vote to evict one of their own, until only one house guest remains to claim the half-million e-pop prize. For these fourteen players, an unforgettable Fall is about to begin now... on Board 8 Big Brother!
Good evening, I'm Naomi Diamond, and welcome to Board 8 Big Brother. Tonight, fourteen people will embark on a journey of a lifetime, each with the dream of walking away with the half-million e-pop prize. And this Fall? For the most part, they're all complete strangers. They've never met each other before, and know little about one another beyond the confines of what's been said and done on this own board. Some may be lurkers, others well-known users, and a few may not even be from Board 8 itself, but regardless, they'll all come together tonight for the first time. And no, there are no ex's, no family relationships, and no "secret couples". Each one of them will be completely on their own.
From a New York Jets fan in Brooklyn to a Witch-Hunter in Oregon, from a fancy Show-Guy in Las Vegas to a champion of the straight rodeo circuit in Dallas, Texas, they all come from different walks of life, but all have one thing in common: a burning desire to win the grand prize. And, in a Board 8 Big Brother first, there are no super special twists at the start of the game that'll inevitably fail by the end of the first week. No, this time, it's simple, clean, and straightforward.
But first, let's take a moment to introduce the fourteen GameFAQs users entering the house for the first time tonight:
And now that the house guests have been introduced, let's get the rest underway.
To the house guests: read that list of names above closely. Among them- could be your new best friend... or your worst enemy. But remember, ultimately, each of you is on your own, and only one person will be crowned the winner of Board 8 Big Brother.
I hope you're ready, because the game is about to begin right now. In the actual show of Big Brother, you guys would be walking into the house right about now and finding your own bed to mark as your own. You'd then sit down in the living room and share your own stories in a first impression get-together over a bottle of champagne. Well, this is online, and that isn't gonna happen here, but maybe something else will encourage you to jump in and get started...
But first, I need to let you all know that this topic is the Board 8 Big Brother house for the season. Feel free to post anything relevant to the game in here. Socializing is encouraged. If this topic maxes, a new one will be made in the same fashion. I'll do my best to keep this place bumped so as to avoid the purge- hopefully you guys will too. All relevant information, updates, results from competitions, nominations, veto replacements, and anything else related will be posted by me in this topic. This is the central hub for the season, so keep it marked down.
With that being said, I'll now provide the same information from the sign-up topic, in relation to the setup and times. Check this information if you ever have any questions in relation to the times or setup. Of course, you can always ask me or a fellow housemate as well. I've as well added some new tidbits in this copy-pasta that ARE important to the game - those tidbits have been set in bold for your convenience.
--[Weekly Format]:--
Each week a "Head of Household" competition will be held either on AIM or on GameFAQs. Always log on and be ready on AIM at the time of the competition (both HoH & Veto) to find out the instructions for the competition. If it's on AIM, it'll happen there. If it's on GameFAQs, I'll provide further instructions as to where. The winner of this competition will be crowned the "HoH" for the entire week, holding all the power. This competition will occur on a [Thursday] night at 12AM EST. Everyone is expected to show up for these competitions. Get there early to make things easier.
By [Friday] night, the player who was crowned Head of Household must nominate TWO other players for "eviction" - to be removed from the game. The HoH will have until 11PM EST on Friday night to send in their nominations to me. When they have made their decision on who to nominate, they will then message me (via PM/AIM/email - in private) who they are keeping safe, in what order they are keeping these players safe, and who the two players being nominated are. If you are HoH, you are basically deciding which players you want to keep safe by giving them their key to the house for that week. The "order" in which you hand out the keys matters, so don't forget it.
After nominations go up, either on Friday night or [Saturday] at any time, I will ask the HoH and the two nominees to randomly give me a number - this number will then decide who plays in the next competition on Sunday night - the Power of Veto competition.
On [Sunday] night at 11PM EST, another competition will happen - the "Power of Veto" competition. The HoH, the two nominees, and 3 other players selected at random (via the numbers provided) will partake in this competition - 6 players total. If you aren't selected, you don't need to show up. If you are HoH/nominated/selected at random, you do. I will post in this topic after the numbers have been provided informing everyone on who has been selected randomly to play in the veto competition. Be sure to pay attention for this on Saturday/Sunday.
Whoever wins this competition will win the "Power of Veto (PoV)" which gives the winner the power to remove one of the nominees from the chopping block. The winner of the PoV will also be immune from eviction for the week. The PoV may be used on yourself if you have been nominated.
On [Tuesday] night, the Power of Veto Ceremony will happen. Nobody needs to show up for this, much the same as the HoH nominations on Friday. The winner of the PoV will have to decide whether they want to use the PoV on one of the nominees. Regardless of whether they use it or not, they must message me in private of their decision by no later than 11 PM EST on Tuesday night. If they do use it, they must tell me on who. As well, if they use it, I will then ask the HoH who they would like to put up as the "replacement nominee". If you are HoH for the week, please be ready to provide me with a replacement nominee right away. This means it may be best to message me your replacement based on who gets removed ahead of time. Whoever gets replaced will then be on the chopping block for the week and will have the possibility of being evicted come Thursday night. All of these results will be posted in this hub topic.
Finally, leading up to the eviction on that Thursday night, any player not nominated will message me in private casting their vote for one of the two nominees to be evicted from the game. If you are the current HoH, you do not vote, and will only vote in the event of a tie. The time frame to vote falls after the PoV ceremony and before the eviction time - a good 48 hours or so. Make sure you don't forget to vote in this allotted time frame.
Then, on [Thursday night], by 11 PM EST, the votes will be revealed, and one of the two nominees will be removed from the game. The next Head of Household competition will happen later in the night, and the process for the week will repeat, until only two competitors are left standing.
Once the final two competitors are left, the players who placed between 3rd and 9th will vote on who they think deserves to be crowned the winner of the game. 3rd through 9th place form the "Jury" - they each have a hand in who ultimately walks away with the title.
So, to summarize: Thursday night: HoH competition Friday night: Nominations Saturday: Veto players picked Sunday night: Veto competition Tuesday night: Veto ceremony Thursday night: Eviction, next HoH competition
--Tips to remember (from me to you):--
- I'll be sending out invites to an AIM Blast Group momentarily. When you log onto AIM, accept the invite, and you'll be placed in the B8BB Blast Group. A "Blast Group" is the same thing as an AIM Chatroom, only it solely exists for those invited to the group, and the chat never goes down. You can access it and send out messages whenever you want, talk to each other whenever you want, and anyone that's online will be able to use it at any time with (hopefully) little to no hassle.
- Today is Day 1, and will only last for 4 hours. All time-related events during the game revolve around the EST timezone.
- As well, this game is NOT a sprint, it's a marathon. It will not be over in a few weeks. It takes a while- much longer than you may first imagine. There is a lot of downtime. It spans roughly 3 real life months (September to late November/early December). If you want to play, you must be ready to play for the long haul.
- I understand that real life "happens" - I myself am going through real life too! I understand if you can't show up to every challenge or meeting - but I fully expect you to try to do so anyway. I most definitely will be, and if something happens in my real life I'll alert you guys on any changes to the game. If you are going to sign up, you must promise me that you'll keep me alerted on when you cannot show up to certain events. I don't need a reason, just an alert.
- Ultimately, please cooperate with me at all times, through thin and thinner. Work with me, because I'm not perfect, but I'm perfectly willing to try to be! Believe me, when I hosted the board Survivor game back in early-mid 2010, the worst parts were dealing with non-cooperative players. I really don't want any bitter Betty's and apathetic players.
And then...
--The Diary Room--
Via email (and only email), you email me your thoughts. Your email to my email is the Diary Room. AIM/PM conversations do not count as the Diary Room. Every time you email me a portion of your thoughts, depending on the length of your email, I will reward you with "Publicity Points". At first I thought to assign 1 point per email, but then I realized that there's nothing stopping you from spamming me with little entries to rack up points. So instead, Publicity Points are rewarded based on the length of each entry. Content value varies, because I realize that not all of us are probably great writers, or care to write deep novels, let alone anything at all. I appreciate if you put time and effort into them though.
At the end of the season, if you rack up the most points, I'll reward you with an "America's Favorite House Guest" prize - sorta like how the show does it with $25k. The prize will be decent, too. I may hand out smaller prizes for those who don't come in first, but still provide content. If you are in the final two, however, you won't be eligible for the prize, as you'll be vying for the bigger "W".
As well, if you're eliminated from the game, the DR will no longer be accessible to you. Only house guests still in the game may use it. The Diary Room is flexible in its demands. It's completely optional - if you don't want to use it, you don't have to. If you want to use it, you may use it at any time of day, as many times as you want, to your hearts content. When you decide to first use the DR, I recommend that you only use one email account for the entire season. It's easier for me to keep track of who is who with each email. I would also make sure you put either your username or in-game first name in each entry, just to make sure I get the PP allocation correct - don't want to not get credit for your effort.
If you're wondering what you should talk about, it can really be anything game-related. Your feelings toward certain players, or certain conversations you had. Possible scenarios, future scenarios, thoughts on events or competitions, or who you trust/don't trust/who you're aligned with/want gone. You could write about what you're hoping to see happen, or what you're expecting to happen, or how much you hate everyone, and can't wait to pick them all off and then get all their votes in the end while you're laughing all the way to the bank. You can write about your strategy.
If you have any questions about the DR, please feel free to ask.
The Diary Room's email address is: [email protected] (not case-sensitive)
And with all that being said, and the Diary Room now being open, the game of Board 8 Big Brother has officially begun.
...but first, recall earlier at the top of the page how I mentioned something about encouraging you all to "jump in and get started"... well, allow me to reveal what I meant now. Because the Diary Room is open, you are free to submit your entries as soon as you want. But to break that ice, how about I encourage you to 'warm up' to it a little by offering a welcoming gift? Here's whatsup: If you submit at least one entry to the DR between now and the start of the first HoH challenge tomorrow night at midnight EST, you'll then become eligible to win a mysterious 'prize' that will be claimed by the end of the challenge. The contents of said prize shall remain anonymous for the time being. If you don't want to become eligible for the prize, but still want to submit an entry to the DR, feel free to let me know in your entry and I'll take you out of the running.
Here's a quick list of everyone's usernames. Feel free to add them and talk to any of them at any point, both inside and outside of this topic.
Well, it looks like I'm the token old guy this season. I'll try NOT to break any bones in competitions or bore you young-uns with stories about the Revolutionary War or dinosaurs or whatever was going on back in my time....
edit: forgot the NOT before... *sigh* damn it already gone senile >_<

I had thought we decided on 11 for comps and didn't actually read the first post.
I wasn't at a computer either way so it didn't matter this time. But if every HoH is at midnight, I will never make it. <_<
Also I rarely get on AIM unless it's for a purpose because I'm lazy.

Kris, you're just a floater. If you think you can make it through this game by floating through the game and throwing competitions YOU'RE SADLY MISTAKEN.
3DSRage posted... I compete in every challenge and I FIGHT.
...Except for the only challenge that we've had so far.

...in a way that doesn't get me expelled of course. So probably with sarcastic barbs and the passive-aggressive hiding of your personal items.
Plus no one wants to be the first HoH anyway, they just get the honor of making the first enemy.

Alright guys, it's time for the nomination ceremony.
There's a good chance I'll have the HoH host the ceremony each week from here on out, but for now I'll be doing this first one as an established example. Depending on my mood, I may just keep to hosting these for the remainder of the season, since it's easier that way. But we'll see.
I had Menji message me his speech and nominations for tonight. This is what he said...
Menji: "Part of my duty as HoH is to choose two people for eviction. Week 1 is always the toughest as I haven't gotten to know you all as much as I'd like.
Let's get this started.
The first key I pull is safe and then that person will grab the next key and so on. The first person safe is...
Nejo, you are safe.
Second person...
Graves, you are safe.
Third person...
Paul, you are safe.
Fourth person...
Jonathan, you are safe.
Fifth person safe...
Cameron, you are safe.
Sixth person...
Reg, you are safe.
Seventh person...
Tim, you are safe.
Eighth person...
Cole, you are safe.
Ninth person...
Ryley, you are safe.
Tenth person...
Kyle, you are safe.
And the last person safe is...
mnk, you are safe.
I have nominated Joseph and Kris for eviction. I promised I wouldn't use the words personal/strategy in this speech so instead I'll just say you guys weren't there to compete in the HoH competition and that's not fair to the rest of us. If you want to stay, you'll have your chance to compete in the POWER of VETO and get yourself off the block.
Good luck and that concludes the nomination ceremony."
Joseph and Kris, I need each of you to post a number between 1 and 12. The number you pick will decide who will play in the power of veto competition alongside you. There's a chance that you may get "House Guest's choice", and if you do, you'll then be able to pick who you want. I'll need you to post your numbers as soon as possible. If neither of you post a number, I'll RNG the number for you. The people who are picked to play in the PoV on Sunday night will be revealed tomorrow night.
That concludes tonig-
Oh wait, no it doesn't.
I have one more little piece of information to provide you guys with for tonight.
First, I was happy with the turn out at last nights first HoH competition. I would love to keep that up throughout the rest of the season. However, at the same time, I've had a minor issue with one player in the game when it comes to contacting them. I haven't been able to speak with this player since they signed up, and in turn I've come to the conclusion that they're not going to grace us with their presence anytime soon. If you're wondering who that player is, it's Kyle. Kyle, because I haven't been able to reach you at all over the last few days, and because you didn't show up last night nor give me a reason for your absence, you've left me with little to no choice but to replace you from the game. I can't help but feel like these are warning signs of things to come from you.
By doing this, Kyle has officially been removed from the game. However, that does not mean that the cast has been reduced to 13, or that we're moving up a week in schedule. Instead, a replacement has been found to make up for the hole that Kyle left us. And that hole is being filled up by none other than...
Ricky is now officially a house guest in B8 Big Brother. I spoke to Menji and informed him that Kyle would be removed, but what I did not tell him was that Ricky would be his replacement. Because Ricky did not have a chance to compete in the HoH, I've let him take Kyle's key from the nomination ceremony (though it now says "Ricky" on it). Ricky can still be nominated at the Veto Ceremony, mind you. However, because Ricky hasn't had the chance to properly integrate himself in with anyone else, and to prevent an ugly backdooring, I've decided to automatically allow Ricky to play in the PoV on Sunday night. This now means that there will be 7 people competing for the veto instead of the usual six.
Ricky, with all that said, welcome to the game! Good luck.
To everyone, that now concludes my announcement. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me in private on AIM or in the DR. Good night everyone.
