My position right now is highly skeptical interest.
Like, this could be good, but it seems like it also has a pretty high chance of being to DQ what FF11 and 14 are to FF. (aka "that joke game that really shouldn't have a number)

Yeah, the way their talking about and showing it, this is clearly an online-centric game, that just happens to be able to be played offline. Ideally, you'll play this with a bunch of other people instead of by yourself. They did say it will have a big story.

Yeah, DQX is Wii / Wii U -- regardless of which version you play, you'll be in the same world. They said the Wii U version will have "superior graphics," though.

hm. so basically they want people to double dip - you get the Wii version and all the early stuff, then the Wii U version happens, you buy that version for updated bunch of stuff and they focus more on the Wii U's capabilities. and probably add extra stuff too. you just get on your account and done.

man, why isn't there a 3DS version to go with this too. that's pretty much the perfect setup they can have - one account that you can play through the game fully on the Wii, Wii U, or 3DS. if the Wii can pull it off, not sure why the 3DS wouldn't. DQ's never been that intensive of a game anyway.

That'll probably have a more centralized online system if Iwata wasn't lying to me and you kind of need that for this type of game. Monster Hunter Tri's online was excellent in-game, but the lack of system friend lists letting you know when people were on held it back.

huh why not? It's been in development for 3 years. Horii's team has sort of been separate from the rest of SE so it's not like he spends half a decade designing belts like Nomura does. I've got good money on the Wii U version being a launch title.

- Dragon Quest X announced for Wii / Wii U. Release date is 2012.
- It's being developed internally at Square Enix, Visual Works is handling the CGI movies.
- Online will be crossplatform -- you can start playing on the Wii, and then carry your game over to the Wii U, and continue where you left off. Both games will share and interact in the same world.
- There are plans for a beta sometime in the future.
- Given that it's an online RPG, your party members will be human players. You can play offline by hiring NPCs at the local pub.
- Battle system is similar in style to a MMO, or FFXII.
- Post-game content will work similar to DQIX Quests, but they say they might be able to do them at a faster pace.
- You can choose to work in a shop, making weapons or armor that you can let your friends or other players use. Your popularity will rise if your equipment is used by many people. Also, you can make your own home that your friends can visit.
- There are five continents and five races, the game will have a "huge story."
- There will be a Job System.
- Each holiday will have special events that you can take part in.
- Their goal is to keep the HUD "simple and easy to use."
