If you have been on this board for the last like three or four or five years you have no reason whatsoever not to go with Super Mario Sunshine. Here's my post from a few days ago explaining why I don't see Dante receiving a DMC3 boost and not defeating Vincent:

The more I think about it, the more I see Dante not getting much of a boost from Devil May Cry 3. Poor sales and not much buzz. The only talk I heard was of its "insane difficulty." It had no more hype than Devil May Cry 2 and will be lucky to get half the sales.

Of course, one argument against this would be Vergil's solid performance in the Spring Contest, to which I say, "what the hell?" I had no idea 64% against a guy NOBODY knows (with one of the worst picture mismatches in history, I might add) was all that impressive. If anything, Vergil's ability to keep Sephiroth from netting 79% is more impressive, and he did that with his, surprise surprise, Devil May Cry 1 picture.

Dante getting a 1 seed seems to be more credible evidence to me, but let's really look at this for a second. Nominations were open for two days. The skeleton guy got in because of Shake. The King of all Cosmos (bless his soul) got in because of the crazy people on this board. Dante likely got his seeding because of the people currently playing (or who have just recently played) DMC3, but as we all know, strength in nominations does not equal strength in the contest, and with the extremely short nomination period we had this year, it's all the more reason to put little faith in them.

I love Dante. He's cool, he's badass, and he's in a new game that has been warmly received. I know nothing about Vincent except that he's FFVII's resident "cool guy," and that's more than enough for me. FFVII is the one entity on this site that has failed to disappoint in the three years we've had contests (unless we count Mario/Cloud 2002), and if I'm going to doubt it, it has to give me reason to do so.

At this point, the only thing worrying me about Vincent is HM's vehement support.

Call me crazy, but I'm starting to get a teeny bit worried about Knuckles. Every time I look at the numbers, it keeps getting more and more likely that Knuckles will come close to Magus.

It's hard to believe ANYONE would've taken Star Ocean to beat Pokemon, but that spoke of how little we thought of it at the time.

Remember when we had a poll glitch with Xenogears vs. G/S/C where only registered users could vote? Everyone was saying that when the poll glitch was fixed, G/S/C would win once the general public was allowed to vote.

Then the glitch was fixed, and Xenogears won by MORE.

We had a few glitches in the Games Contest, actually. I remember KOTOR/Vice City ran for 48 hours, for some reason.

He'd post "favourite character of all time lists" with Link and Cloud as the top 2 and then next month they wouldn't even be top 15 or whatever, and Samus would be there instead. Whenever there was an HM playthrough topic, wasn't the running gag to say (if he was playing FF7) "1. Cloud" or w/e?

The reason why Pokemon GSC/Xenogears is getting so few votes is because they are both trying to lose so badly to avoid Final Fantasy VII.

I was so happy when the Pokemon vs Star Ocean match kicked off and Pokemon was winning. Not only that, Pokemon was winning by quite a bit. I was worrying so much that Pokemon would end up losing again. It's great that Pokemon actually has a lot of strength these days. I guess I'm still always worried that it won't always be like this, though.

It's become cool again. It's gone past "teenage uncool" and into "nostalgic awesome" for a lot of people now.

I actually had a hard time choosing between Metroid or Pokemon. Star Ocean fear made me choose Metroid in round 2.

GAME FUEL was amazing. I used to chug that stuff back in 2007 prior to all of Master Chief's matches.

That reminds me of when I made a topic before Master Chief's first match in 2007 where I predicted Master Chief to go deep into the contest because of GFF. That's GAME FUEL FACTOR, the idea that Master Chief will get a strength boost because of the marketing campaign by Mountain Dew when they used GAME FUEL to promote Halo 3. Well, I ended up being correct about Master Chief going deep into the contest.
