Like a boss.
Who were you rooting for back then, TRE, and who would you back today? I was all Mario in 2003 but would vote for Crono today. Hard to tell with you since I think you're a fan of both.

People were talking about half a million posts, even though it's only after 1000 reaches 500 that we get half a million.
We miscounted when we initially started numbering topics. Counting backwards, the first topic was Part 0. So this is part 1000 and we already have half a million posts as well.

Pokemon VGC2011 NW Regional - Top 8 Pokemon VGC2011 US Nationals - 54th place
I've told this story before, but I'll tell it again. I remember when Mario/Crono II happened, it was on a school night, so I had to go to bed for class the next day. I was pretty sure Crono had it in the bag at that point, so instead of staying up to watch the end of the match, I went to bed and decided I'd just see how much he ended up winning by in the morning before going to school (As an aside: Holy crap, I was still in high school when SC2K3 happened. Time flies).
I got on GameFAQs the next morning and voted in Alucard/Sephiroth, and out of the corner of my eye I noticed the bracket below had Mario advancing to the next round. I couldn't believe it. I quickly checked the previous poll to see, and sure enough, MARIO HAD WON. My mind was blown. Unfortunately, I had to leave for school and I didn't have time to check the board to see what had happened. Anyway, there was one guy I went to school with who also kept up with the contest, and I had my first class of the day with him. When I came to class, I was like, "Hey, did you see that Mario/Crono match yesterday?"
Apparently, he hadn't checked the final results because he was happy and bragging about how Crono had won. Then I told him, "Mario won." And he totally flipped out.
Good times.

"So cold. I am always by your side." "There ain't no gettin' off of this train we on!"
Okay, look, there's NO WAY Tidus and Shadow just so happened to drop proportionally in the stats between 2003 and 2004! That is so unlikely I'm not even going to consider it! Mega Man clearly overperformed on Tidus!
Holy crap! Tifa did as well on Vyse as Cloud did! Vincent and Tifa are clearly getting the FFVII fan votes with Cloud and Sephiroth removed! I don't think anyone can stop them from winning!

I'm surprised we are actually using this topic, since this topic doesn't have the usual opening post that you would expect in other topics. Wonder if Ulti (pretty sure he claimed part 1000) will make a real part 1000.

First is bittersweet. The male/female contest of 2006. I was perfect, absolutely perfect, until Luigi/Zero. There were only like 55 perfects at that point, but I never got on the leaderboard because...well, I guess I submitted my bracket a bit too late. But being tied for the lead among 10000-odd people was fun I guess.
Second, Knuckles/Magus. Spent a week without internet access at my nana's house. Came back and went through all the previous results, cycling through the URLs. Saw Kerrigan got crushed, then got to Knuckles/Magus and ignored it. Then, just as I was changing the URL #, I realized what I had seen. I did a legit double take, it was awesome.
And then my favourite contest match ever. Sonic vs. Crono. I was all over that match throughout the entire contest. Despite the fact that the match was theoretically v. close based on 2005, nobody had faith in Sonic to pull it out in a close one. But I did! It was my "upset special". So needless to say when I logged on that morning and saw Crono mowing Sonic down, I was a little upset but still knew what Crono could do at night, Sonic could do in the day.
And it transpired. That was when we were moving to our new house, so while my parents were at the house taking measurements and stuff, I was back and forth from the library across the street, excitedly checking the updates. I was into that match like I've never been into a match before, check out the archives. It was amazing, just amazing, and I don't think it will ever be topped on a personal level.

I don't think I've ever had a massive point win where I was standing almost alone. I did have several smaller point wins where I was almost alone over the years.

BOP Results: http://charmander6000.webs.com/GotD%20BOP.xls Congratulations to Black Turtle for winning the guru contest.
Actually, Sub-Zero > Master Chief was a pretty proud moment for me, too. I was one of the few who actually sided with him, and he was an NRT winner, too.
People should've known Master Chief being a huge favorite was a sign for trouble.
LeonhartFour posted... Sonic > Crono might have been my finest hour. I pulled for that one and supported that one through thick and thin.
^5.
Only match that could possibly compare to Sonic/Crono was Snake/Sephiroth. People talk about MM/SSBB being a good vs. evil paradigm - Snake vs. Sephiroth was that for me. It was amazing.
06 in general was my favourite contest. OK the female bracket was bad on the whole, but Claire/Kairi was fun and Jill losing by 27 again was hilarious. Then you have Snake's absolute miracle run, which was LONG overdue (he was the best character in the n9). Gauntlet of Champions thing was excellent too...the shocking fall of Megaman and Sonic finally winning the big one. The Prince of Persia finally debuting. Lara Croft not being completely reamed (though still not looking as strong as she should).

I think that match was really the one that gave Chief his choker moniker around here (unless lots of people had him winning against Aeris in 2003 or something?). Then again, some people took it a bit too far

I'm not sure how many big point upsets I was a part of. I was just a hair away from taking Charizard to take his division but realized too late that the match was on the release date of Pokemon HGSS. In terms of smaller upsets, I did side with Master Hand over Kuja. I kinda regret not being more vocal about that pick considering how famous the upset would become.

I think Halo/Starcraft was what started the MC choke train, even though MC wasn't actually in the match.
But in the battle of biggest choker, Donkey Kong won.
From: PartOfYourWorld | #089 It might be a futile endeavor, but maybe one day the brain trust around here can compile a list of the 100 greatest matches.
I could probably make a list of my own.

Oh man I forgot about Charizard's run! That was awesome. When he beat Bowser I marked. 2010 was good too. Noble 9 breaking once and for all was insane (even if you think it ended in the 4-way Crono lost to Vince, it was made official here).
