They've made really great selections all around. I'm quite happy that we have wonky and lesser known characters like MODOK and Phoenix Wright, even if it comes at the expense of some of the more popular characters. They've managed to create a really diverse cast, both in gameplay as well what type of crowd they appeal to.

Don't start whining just because your favorite character isn't in the game. Try out some of the others. You just might find some of the craziest, most interesting, and most fun characters ever...

The only major complaints are Mega Man, Gambit, and Venom not making it in. Other than that, I haven't seen much bile towards the roster.

Considering that the two characters topping my list (Amaterasu and Wrighto) were also probably in the top five biggest WTF picks, I never thought I had any place to complain. That said, I did question some additions at first, like Spencer, but they ended up growing on me. She-Hulk, a character I never wanted in a million years, became a personal favorite of mine thanks to MvC3.

I was seriously disappointed that Dr. Strange, Ghost Rider, Iron Fist, and Nova didn't make it in to the first game. Now all of them are in and they brought Rocket Raccoon and Hawkeye (two other heroes I greatly enjoy) along for the ride! Capcom's side is just as perfect, except the "hey, that's fine too" characters are Firebrand and Nemesis.

As a comic fan I can see the logic in every single Marvel character they chose and the ones they left out.

You know what Gambit does nowadays? Jack s***. He follows X-23 around and gets his ass kicked! He doesn't have minis anymore. He's not on covers anymore. His appearance in the Wolverine movie was awful and his planned spinoff was canned because NOBODY CARES. People are wondering why MODOK got in over him? Maybe cuz MODOK is in a bunch more comics and non-comic things than Gambit is nowadays

No, not at all. Many characters don't have a 3D model they could use (Strider) or would need a new one (I highly doubt they'd just rip Mega Man's model off of TvC). Their movesets need to completely relooked at and mostly reworked for this new, quite different game.

If only Marvel wasn't so lame about Cyke he would totally merit a spot, too. Really, at this point, I think the only thing the Marvel side missed was a Spidey villain. Imagine a permaflying Green Goblin, or a really snazzy Venom, or hell, even something like Electro or Rhino.

we're out of the Jim Lee X-Men 90s where Cable filled every comic cover with pouches and guns that were five times his size.

although I do miss that show. Wolverine and the X-Men was good and all but I miss my classic X-Adventures

Pretty sure Rocket Raccoon is going to be full of Cable references so people aren't locked out of the loop though.

but maybe they aren't done and don't want to hit a snag and have to get rid of it and disappoint people even more by removing it

Megaman should've been in. Is there some legal reason they can't use Megaman in this game or something? It just doesn't make sense. You can make any argument that you want (Zero is basically Megaman, his MvC2 moveset sucked, etc.) but it still doesn't preclude the fact that Capcom should've developed a new Megaman model specifically for this game.

I'm super psyched for Rocket Raccoon being in this game and YOU ALL SHOULD BE TOO. He's a fantastic character. I'm most excited for him, Nova, Hawkeye, and Iron Fist. Virgil too.

And as Zen said, Gambit doesn't do s*** nowadays, but we have enough freaking X-Men in the game already, we don't need anymore. The characters they chose are perfect. Venom would be kind of cool, but the old Eddie Brock Venom that everyone knows hasn't been around for years and years now. Eddie is Anti-Venom now, he's trying to be a good guy.



And Peter Parker's old bully Flash Thompson is Venom now.



Yeah he's a good Venom, but he still has to battle the symbiote for control.

Of course, either of these characters would be pretty cool additions to the roster, and they could still use old Venom anyway, because he still shows up when Flash loses control, and it's not like they're afraid of using characters that haven't really appeared much lately... or at all, Dormammu. That dude seriously has only about 11 appearances in total all throughout comics. He's had NO appearances within years, I think he's dead actually.

The only two issues I have with character selection is the lack of Mega Man and a Spidey villain. Other than, the cast is really solid IMO.

I still can't fathom why Mega Man wasn't included though. It makes no sense to me.

I never really got why character selection was such a big deal to people. And I'm not talking about in terms of move sets, but in terms of, like, "Ryu is in the game, Mega Man isn't." You mean to tell me that if Mega Man was included in this game, and was as barebones and boring as his MvC2 incarnation, that you would be okay with it? Even at the expense of, let's say, Zero?

I agree with this guy. Anti-Venom is pretty cool once you get to know him. He also has a mini that was a pretty enjoyable read.

Shuma-Gorath was included after incessant begging by Capcom to Marvel. I think that's why he was DLC; Marvel didn't say yes until late in the game

Dormammu was the one possessing the Hood and was the villain in Marvel Zombies 4. That's about as recent as he gets.

I also never understood why recent comic events is so important to who gets chosen on the roster outside of Marvel wanting to advertise. From what I've gathered from San Diego Comic Con/Wondercon Comic book readers don't even play Marvel vs Capcom games much. They'd rather complain on why the Hulk isn't invincible to Ryu's punches or why Magneto fight nothing like he does in the comics and even when they do play the game they just pick a-listers like Wolverine, Hulk and Captain America or Shotos and Chun Li and mash. They never chose the "hardcore" characters like She Hulk, MODOK and X-23.

At Evo almost nobody there reads comics or if they did they stopped in the 90's. They all know the Marvel characters from the 90's X-Men, Spider-Man and Marvel Action Hour cartoons and everyone one there wanted Gambit and Venom in the game with Niistuma constantly getting bugged by them.

Honestly, leaving Gambit out of the game just because he's irrelevant in comics is just silly seeing that it just hurts the major fanbase with casual and tournament players and most comic book readers don't even care who gets in MvC3 considering how few of them actually play it. Especially considering that MvC3 has no story and 2 irrelevant characters (Jean Grey and Sentinel Mark-V.)
