Despite my playthrough topic purging last week, I finally got to it and powered through Chapter 4. Finished the game.
For the most part it was pretty easy, although the last battle with Balk was absolutely awful and should have been the end. The fights with Rofel were annoying until I decided to just maintenance up. I ended up making Ramza a ninja, and that worked out best. Ninja+concentrate is godly, I must say.
Final boss was a total joke. Lich was absolutely broken on him. But I enjoyed the ending. I like to think Ramza and Alma didn't make it out alive. And that ****ing bastard Delita got what he deserved. Best moment of the game, because he was one of the best not-villains ever. I hated him much more than Algus.
Want more impressions? Ask me anything, fellas.

My Japanese alter-ego. Hey all this is Bartz btw.
Algus was a dick and a bigot, that's for sure. He was even a slightly manipulate kiss-ass.
But Delita became a monster. He murdered several (innocent?) people just to satisfy his thirst for power, he tricked a girl into loving him just so he could get the throne from her, and he never showed a bit of guilt for it. His whole theme was "I'm going to get power so everyone can know how it feels to have a **** taken on them!"
He's pretty much a heartless murdering lying bastard.

FFT is probably my favorite of all the Final Fantasy games. I absolutely love the gameplay and the story (for the most part) was one of the most interesting in the series. I found the characters to be very human and understandable.
Of course, the whole Lucavi thing ruined it. I guess it wouldn't be Final Fantasy without an evil dark otherworldly force trying to destroy the world. I would have preferred something more... believable.
If that makes any sense.

I got the impression Alma and Ramza were alive, just because that makes more sense than them wandering around as ghosts, on ghost chocobos, which were dropping ghost feathers into a decidedly not ghost river

We are thought, and reality, and concept, and the unimaginable
From: Diet Water | #008 Anyway now you need to play Final Fantasy Tactics 1.3
Naah.
And yeah, I like the ending better if Ralma dies, but I don't think that's what happens. I stopped caring about the story of FFT a loooong time ago. =/

No amount of planning will ever replace dumb luck.
From: KingButz | #013 I was thinking about trying 1.3, but I will probably not get around to that. What's the name of that other newer mod?
Laggy Fantasy Tactics (or just LFT).
1.3 is a hard-mode mod. If you want that, by all means try, but I don't think the word "fun" crossed the developer's mind once while making it. Plus he's really stuck-up and if you question any decision he deems that you suck at FFT and your opinion is moot.

LFT is more interesting to me than 1.3. I don't really want the game to be exceptionally difficult... I just want it to be enjoyable. LFT seems to have much more balance.

I like to think Delita had a long reign where he was miserable and lonely the rest of his days because that's what he deserves for manipulating and using everyone around him.
--
"But you have been given freedom. Freedom to be...outside." "I am lightning...the rain transformed."
1.3 wasn't too difficult for the first two chapters with the exception of two or three crazy battles.
The problem is all the enemies are equipped with item, infinite phoenix downs, and infinite elixirs, and don't have any reservations about using them. So battles, even those you are owning, last FOREVER.
Stopped playing in chapter 3.
-- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love!

Really? Because I'd argue that Delita deserved complete power, control, and a kingship. Too bad he didn't get that
oh wait rofl

Beating it really isn't the high point of that game. It's what you do afterwards.. Like building a custom army, maxing out gear, etc. I'm sure you'll like it even more than.
Plus, the first part of the game builds up Delita as a guy you feel bad for because of all he experienced and you root for to overcome the odds, and you get a lot of his backstory so you understand why he is the way he is.
Algus is a jerk because he was born to be a jerk. The game never gives you an opportunity to identify with him or feel bad for him, really (Well, maybe one scene, but it's brief). You don't get to see him build up to it. He's already there.
What Leon said, plus this: Algus is the typical pampered aristocrat. He never worked for anything, being born into austerity and rank, and looks down on others simply because he was raised that way. He's an unreflective ass who's entirely a product of his elitist upbringing. Delita, on the other hand, actually worked for his goals, goals that were well thought-out and seeking a clear aim.

From: Lopen | #029 Yeah I don't understand how so many hate Algus for being a jackass yet praise Delita. Delita's the more despicable individual by far.
Not really. Algus is a complete bastard who hates people solely for being born to the "wrong" parents. Almost everyone Delita kills is a jackass themselves and probably not better to have in positions of power than he is. The handful of non-jackasses he has run ins with tend to survive. He helped Ramza and Orlandu instead of trying to kill them (although they did benefit his plans by living), he didn't kill Balmafula, he never killed Olan, he only eventually killed Ovelia when she tried to kill him first. You can argue Zalmo probably wasn't a bad guy, and that's about it. He's not exactly a saint but in the overall scheme of FFT and its world full of giant dicks, he's one of the lesser evils for sure.

Mistake you're making - overlooking the fact that we might not want to be saved.
Delita provided a nice contrast to Ramza, but Ramza still would have been a great character without him. He is one of the most selfless and loyal FF leads there is, and he doesn't really have many undesirable traits like the others do. Plus he has "Scream"

My Japanese alter-ego. Hey all this is Bartz btw.
I have it on good authority that Ramza uses this move while peeing.

From his looks Magus is Macho Man Randy Savage as an anime zombie. The black wind howls, and one of you will snap into a Slim Jim ooh yeeeah! -sonicblastpunch
