Depends on how busy it is and how much I'm getting. If I'm the only guy in the store and I'm just getting a soda, no. If it's busy or I'm getting a few things, yes.

Yeah, Slurpees or other fountain drinks I will, but usually not bottles.

There have been times where I've gone through the store eating something I got at the deli (usually the potato wedges or chicken strips), and then I just have them scan the empty bag when I get to the checkout. Haven't done that anytime recently, though.

No, but most stores won't hit you for it.

I personally hate customers that do this. They'll put open drinks and empty food wrappers on my belt and say "sorry, I was hungry/thirsty".

It seems a lot worse to eat a hot dog before paying for it than something that's packaged.

Drinking something you haven't actually bought is pretty dumb, yeah. Because then you A) lock yourself into not being able to change your mind, B) look like a ****ing idiot if you happen to have problems with your bank/credit card/forgot your wallet/etc (rare, sure, but still stupid if it happens), etc.

Oh, you've never actually met a customer in your life.

Pro-tip: even if you think that *you* are capable of sticking to your decision, it's no shock to anyone who has ever worked in a store or even talked to someone who has that in general, no, people are *not* capable of rationally understanding that drinking something means you shouldn't just put it back on the shelf and never pay for it.

Yes, I know. And I'm pointing out why doing it personally is kind of silly, because I'm pretty sure 99% of the people asked would say "How dare you suggest I'd not pay for something I started drinking?!" and then do it anyway.
