Man, it's been more than a year since I last watched anime that isn't coming out weekly or a single episode movie! I think it might be about time for my yearly anime series watchthrough.
I would post the similarities(that go far beyond a typical Shounen story and plotline) but that would take too much time. Kubo is pretty much following the exact storyline and progression from YYH, it's actually quite hilarious. Even the newer stuff in Bleach reeks of YYH and the beginning of the Sensui arc.
My mind will literally explode if a certain someone is behind all these antics in the current Bleach arc.
From: Sorozone | #007 Yeah, but Bleach is a ripoff of YYH. >_>

I would be interested in an outline of these similarities!

*Spoilers for both series*
Both are teenage boys, both could be classified as delinquent type characters Both can see things related to spirits, both obtain powers First main arc is about them learning about their powers, learning their limits.
Ok that's understandable typical Shounen arcs, typical main character, typical super powers.
First major arc involves a person in distress; YYH has Yukina, Bleach has Rukia(both girls) YYH assembles a team of Yusuke, Kuwabara and Botan to rescue Yukina; Bleach assembles Ichigo, the Quincy dude, Chad and Orhime.
Both teams rescue said person in distress, it's then revealed that the main person behind both are actually not really dead. Aizen in Bleach, Toguro in YYH. Toguro blackmails Yusuke and the gang to go the demon tournament or he'll kill his friends and stuff, Aizen forces Ichigos hand and he is required to rescue Orihime. Each hero does their job and what not, saves the day.
Still typical Shounen stuff. Except it was pretty much the same series of events.
To go in a bit deeper, Yusuke died and was revived with a much stronger power(demon Yusuke), Ichigo died(at least I think he did, I can't really remember if he actually died or not...either way he got a hole blown through his stomach) and got a much stronger power which was his 2nd Hollow form. Yusukes dad is a demon, Ichigos dad is a Soul Reaper, both did not know this until it was later revealed down the road.
Still typical Shounen stuff that either have direct similarities or slight.
After the first major events in YYH(Toguro events) Yusuke is confronted with people with mysterious powers(which is later explained that they are psychics, and the cause of their recent powers was the demon hole that Sensui was making) but the first major confrontation was organized by Genkai, Yusukes mento/sensai. After the first series of major events(Which took forever I might add of Aizen and all his nonsense) in Bleach, Ichigo at the moment does not have his powers and is confronted with people with mysterious powers.
Like I said, if it ends up that Uhara and Ichigos dad is responsible for most of this stuff to happen, I will absolutely lose it.
It all could be merely coincidence, I mean it's Shounen, they are going to have similar things going on, however if it ends up that someone that Ichigo knows is behind all the stuff in Bleach right, I'll be 100% certain that Kube is just ripping off YYH. Oh and if it was all meant so Ichigo could learn and gain new powers so he can defeat some rogue warrior from the soul society, that would just be hilarious.
Well, at least the unfolding of the "first major events" between the two is different enough, and that counts for a good chunk of episodes in both animes. The whole build-up to Aizen and the way his multiple arcs ended are the absolute highlights of Bleach for me and I don't think YYH had quite reached that level at any point when I watched it, though I think I'd give a slight nod to YYH for the overall fighting scenes.
From: NioraptH | #015 The Malaysian dub of Doraemon makes the title character sound like a chalk screeching on blackboards. So awesome.
Ohhh, so it's not my speakers' problems! You see, I once watched Malay's dubs on a couple of old Doraemon movies (because lord knows it's hard to find good quality rips on some of those) and I don't think I could enjoy the movie because... I just couldn't stop laughing every time Doraemon speaks >__>
Bleach started off as a pretty blatant YYH rip but it started borrowing more from DBZ and Naruto a lot later on.
Bleach pretty much went down the crapper when Aizen took off his glasses though. It's had its moments since then, but it never got back to where it was for the first 50-60 episodes. Even as unoriginal as it was, the earlier episodes were the best.
I also haven't watched past Aizen's imprisonment though, I thought this would be a good time to stop watching for a while and maybe ask around to see if it's worth watching past then much later.
Yeah, I watched the whole first arc (and second I guess?) in under a week, then stopped because of lol Bounto. Picked it up a few years later, and Aizen hooked me up again, so I caught up (while skipping lots of fillers) to the end of his latest arc earlier this year.
