In just over 24 hours, Watch the Throne will be released digitally. This album probably won't be the best album of the year; heck, it probably won't even be best rap album of the year. It will in all likelihood, however, be a pretty damned good one. While Hov may be at an age where few rappers produce good music, Jay-Z rarely takes two albums off in a row, and his great chemistry with Yeezy usually leads to some pretty good tracks. Kanye's producing experiments the last few years has had wonderful results, and he has his hands on all but three tracks on the album. Unfortunately, two of those tracks are produced by Swizz Beatz. Can't win them all, I guess!
Tracklist:
1. "No Church in the Wild" (featuring Frank Ocean) 2. "Lift Off" (featuring Beyoncé) 3. "N****s in Paris" 4. "Otis" (featuring Otis Redding) -- if you haven't heard it yet, you can listen to it here: http://onethirtybpm.com/media/mp3-kanye-west-jay-z-otis-feat-otis-redding/ 5. "Gotta Have It" 6. "New Day" 7. "Thats My B****" 8. "Who Gon Stop Me" 9. "Murder to Excellence" 10. "Welcome to the Jungle" 11. "Made in America" (featuring Frank Ocean) 12. "Why I Love You" (featuring Mr Hudson)
I really can't stand listening to Jay-Z albums anymore, and kind of avoided Kanye's MBDTF (I think that's it..) It just seems so religiously political and kinda creeps me out. I've never been big on religion, but I can't help but feel like these guys are trying to push the issue. Maybe it's all in my head, but I just get a very bad, ominous feeling about their music ever since "Run This Town" released that video.
From: Mershaaay | #011 Reject beats from MBDTF don't get me that hyped
Those were GOOD Friday tracks! And there were some great songs there. If these were rejected MBDTF beats, we'd see Madlib's name at least once. Kanye bought three tracks off him and still hasn't used them.

I stopped following all news on this album once "HAM" was released. I'm really happy to see that it was cut from the album. That track was all kinds of terrible.
Eh. Jay is really good and Kanye isn't bad ever, but the production asserts itself in ... a rather uncomfortable way. The album is so far up its own ass that I'm not really feeling it ... though I am only five tracks in. I'll give it another try tomorrow in the car.

Great stuff on first listen. Some beats were kinda dull but maybe they'll grow on me. Lyrics were great, though I'm not sure I like Frank Ocean's hook on Made In America. The melody is great, the lyrics are sugary as hell. Loved him on Church In The Wild though.
Favourites on first listen: No Church In The Wild, Otis (not really first listen w/e), Why I Love You

This is exactly how I feel about Jay/Kanye collabs post-Black Album.
Jay kind of causes Kanye to stray from his normal lyricism, and Kanye's production becomes way too bloated whenever they work together. The only exception is The Joy, but that is really a Pete Rock beat so maybe that's why

The only time Jay doesn't go hard with Kanye was on Monster and I still say it's because everyone heard Nicki's verse and just decided to let her showtime. But I can't help be hyped. My two favorite artists of all time doing an album together is too good to be true. KANYE CAN'T FAIL RIGHT NOW and there is no way Jay flops on something this massive.

Right now the album is "p. good" status to me. I've yet to be able to fully listen to it cause I have no working headphones, so I've been listening on ****ty laptop speakers.
Plus, rap albums take longer for me to fully digest and appreciate, so yeah.
