In the huge, eight-page review Tom befriends turrets, throws vending machines off buildings, hacks into security terminals, resolves hostage situations and dismembers foes with augmented fist-chisels to conclude that Human Revolution is absolutely the Deus Ex of our age, a genuinely worthy prequel, and a game that puts almost everything else in the genre to shame.

Was anyone else expecting something that wasn't a GotD candidate?

Ever since they started showing clips of the game, you had people all over the internet being all skeptical and cynical about it now being as good as DX1... and then that press version "leaked" and everyone shut up because it was amazing.
GANON1025 posted... yawn. I tried Deus Ex, and it was awful. I have little hope the sequel will be better.
Not cool GANON. Don't troll about one of PC gaming's crown jewels. It just ain't nice mang. :-(

GANON1025 posted... No, I really bought Deus Ex and tried. I did not like it, I couldn't get anywhere on the Statue of Liberty level, and that's the first one.
OK, this needs addressing. Are you up for giving it another try? If so make a playthrough topic and the board will lend you a hand, I'm sure.

Super Mario Bros sucks, I couldn't get past that pipe at the beginning of the level.
Are you kidding? I've seen tons of people talk about how bad the Statue of Liberty level is and how it's not really representative of the full game, and the game gets way better after it. I actually thought of retrying it specifically because of how bad everyone else said it was too. Was I mistaken, then?

You beat yourself up with your past. Don't blame yourself, blame the world. Blame God. Blame me.
Nah, it's pretty much right. The Statue does one thing right and it's making it really clear that you can carve your own path, but the rest ain't so good and the plot (half the reason to play Deus Ex) doesn't take off until later on. I insist, make a playthrough topic. There's a couple things you need to be aware of to breeze through it ASAP and set the tone for your game - if you wing it it CAN work but a couple tips can smooth things over a LOT.

Deus Ex is a terrific game, and it has held up surprisingly well. The game was so innovative in terms of what you can do to advance the game.
Ganon, anyone who tells you it's an easy game will be lying. It's a though game, but abuse saves and you will make it through. It's very much worth it.

My Japanese alter-ego. Hey all this is Bartz btw.
Deus Ex is one of the best games ever in my opinion. Such an incredible title. I'm really pumped for Human Revolution after initally having no hype for it due to how bad Invisible War was.
I thought this was gonna be one of those games that comes out that a lot of critics like, but old Deus Ex fans hate it and compare and contrast every single element to the original and say it sucks.
Then the leak came out and they were like, "Oh hey, this is actually really good".
Looking forward to it!
