Is it really an amazing coincidence?

Yeah, maybe the people who worked on the episode hated it (I don't see any proof backing this), but it's not like a reference to Les Mis is out of question. Les Mis is very well known.

Yeah, Les Miserables isn't so obscure that someone couldn't make a reference out of it. It's a pretty cool reference, though.

the coincidence is that these two episodes are accidentally connected, if I'm reading this correctly.

Do we know for sure it's accidental though?

Reading some things about the production of The Principal and the Pauper I don't think they had already thought of this idea five years prior when they gave his helmet that number.

My favorite is Behind the Laughter, so I'm sure that discredits my opinion on Simpsons' episodes to a lot of people. If your tastes are odd, at least you're not the only one.

I never really understood why people hated that episode so much.

Sure, it wasn't as good as peak, Golden Age Simpson's stuff.. but still pretty good.

It doesn't ruin Skinner's character, or his development. It's part of his overall larger development. How is it less plausible than Homer and the gang being in a Grammy award winning musical act that nobody even recognizes anymore in Springfield? It's hilarious to me that current writers shun it when it's still 10 times funnier than anything they've written in 10 years.

They range from decently watchable to "Trying to be Family Guy" bad. They still lack the subtlety seasons 3-8 had.

Are there even any gems in them? I remember season 19 ( The last season I watched before losing interested) had a couple which were pretty good.

I've loved every Sideshow bob episode except for the funeral one and the one where he gets married and has a kid.

And even those were decent. Sideshow bob episodes have become the only thing I ever look forward to from Simpsons anymore.

Those 2 and the face transplant one were the only Bob episodes to my knowledge that were recent.

Those 2 pissed me off good. The faceplant one left a sour taste for me.

And yes I did watch The Bob Next door and found it alot better than the last two they had. It's part of those couple gems I mentioned from Season 19.

So looking through the recent episodes wikipedia pages. I think I pinpointed one of The Simpsons biggest issues.

Too many guest appearances.

Like the show revolves around them now. Hell they don't even make promotional images for them just a picture of what the main cameo will look like.

Well guest appearances is one way to keep people interested. The last season I watched in it's entirely was season 12. The next couple of years I would catch a few episodes. Then it was only the Treehouse of Horror episodes. Then I watched the first new episode after the movie came out. So I haven't watched an episode in just shy of four years. That said I'm tuning in this season for at least one episode. The reason: Neil Gaiman is guest appearing.
