-In Japan, two games were initially released: Green Version, and Red Version -Later, an enhanced Blue Version was released, and this in turn was made into the international Red/Blue Version -Later still, a Yellow Version was released in both Japan and international audiences
Alright then. Here's my question: we obviously didn't get Japan's Red/Green versions, but did Japan get our Red version? Or is the updated Red version internationally-exclusive? Google wasn't very helpful about this,

As far as I know: the international versions of Pokemon have the visual style of the Japanese Blue, and the Pokemon distribution of the Japanese Red/Green. The JPN edition of Blue had some new locations for certain Pokemon: Jynx could be found in the Seafoam Islands, Ditto in Rock Tunnel, Lickitung in the Safari Zone, etc.
Also, JPN Blue had different in-game trades, different Game Corner prizes (like Horsea), and IIRC, an exclusive version of the Unknown Dungeon.

This is interesting. So which came first, Japanese Blue or international R/B?
I'm pretty sure JPN Blue came out in '97, as a promotional item for CoroCoro magazine. It might have been '98, but either way, I'm 99% sure it came first.
