I think one metric to judge the level of demand of any sport is retirement age. Tennis players have a very short shelf life. A 30-year-old tennis player is considered old. Very few tennis players can maintain their physical edge past that edge. A 30-year-old baseball player is just hitting the second half of his career. Ripken himself played past age 40.
