Questionable red but, eh, whatever it's debatable.

But Hope Solo moved SIDEWAYS and NOT OFF HER LINE and she saved the s*** out of that goal.

I am f***ing furious.

I mean it was literally one of the cleanest saves you'll ever see.

Goalies come off their line at least 50% of the time (even though it's just a little bit) but Hope Solo had a f***ing perfect and beautiful save.

I am so mad I can't possibly imagine what is going through her mind back there all by herself.

In amongst all the drama over that penalty, one point that nearly got lost was the fact that Brazil changed takers - from Cristiane to Marta - between the first attempt and the second. Is that even legal?

this is actually a really good question

Indeed, the man is an encyclopedia.

Also, not to appear a devil's advocate here but is you lot tihnking this is some FIFA conspiracy more to do with America's natural dislike of bad officiating in general? And the fact that you don't often compete internationally? Not to say the reffing isn't bad, but it's not as bad as it's been in this tournament so far, and bad retake decisions happen on a semi-regular basis

Bad refereeing + US not competing in international sport all that often = this

Or in Smuffin's case:

Bad refereeing + general ignorance about the game + US not competing in international sport all that often + persecution complex = this

Um, why would you (potentially) disadvantage the team that was wronged? And what if they are injured and cannot continue? o_O

There is nothing in the referee handbook that covers it. I was pretty sure this was the case but I just checked mine (albeit slightly out of date since I haven't reffed a game since 2005/6 ish) and there is absolutely zero mention of it. Pretty certain it will not have been changed as it basically never changed and any major revision/addition was always backed up with a letter from them.

Quick research (and the fact it's missing from the handbook) says that it is allowed. Personally I don't agree with that but yeah, it isn't illegal.

From the replay, it showed one of the American players storming the box when the penalty was taken, which makes a bit more sense, at least. Which would mean Hope Solo got the yellow for expressing her distaste for the call.

While that would still be extremely harsh, I can at least live with that decision, if that's what it was.

I would be a lot more pissed off if I was a Brazil fan and that got called offside than I am now with that not being called.

And if you want to argue close calls, we could very easily be down to 9 players if they call the handball early in the second half intentional (which it was) and send HER off.
