Things that are awesome about RSE: - Hoenn is the best designed region by far, with a variety of interesting routes to explore and many more towns than the standard 10. The only catch were the water routes, but repel exists and they're mostly optional. - I love a lot of the new Pokemon. Many of them have awesome designs and there was much better variety in types and dual types, even before the first badge. - While Ruby's and Sapphire's plot was a bit weak, fighting both evil teams in Emerald is awesome. - They revamped the stat system to make it more interesting and customizable. - They also introduced abilities. - As a result of the last two points, competitive battling became much deeper and well-polished. - Emerald introduced the Battle Frontier and still has the best version of it. - Secret Bases are fun to design and fighting your friends in them is even more awesome. - Contests are a fun minigame to work on if you're in the mood for them. - Lots of fun and creative sidequests like the Trick House and the Regis. - Steven is the coolest champion (except maybe Blue) - Emerald has a cloning glitch
You know, despite agreeing with most points (the first one being the most controversial), I still think RBY and B/W are better pokémon games overall. I don't think RSE is the worst though, my least favorite is DPPt, but I recently replayed GSC and, remakes aside, it was more flawed than I remembered, I enjoy going back to RBY and RSE a lot more.

Many of them have awesome designs and there was much better variety in types and dual types, even before the first badge.- but it had a lot of crappy ones too like zizagoon and wurmple lawls - While Ruby's and Sapphire's plot was a bit weak, fighting both evil teams in Emerald is awesome.- i actually liked the plot - They revamped the stat system to make it more interesting and customizable.- bah - They also introduced abilities.- bah - As a result of the last two points, competitive battling became much deeper and well-polished.- after second gen it couldn't have been hard to improve competitive battling - Emerald introduced the Battle Frontier and still has the best version of it.- haven't played emerald so :( - Secret Bases are fun to design and fighting your friends in them is even more awesome.- seriously? - Contests are a fun minigame to work on if you're in the mood for them.- oh my god really? - Lots of fun and creative sidequests like the Trick House and the Regis.- how dare you getting the Regis sucked ass. Relicanth? really? - Steven is the coolest champion (except maybe Blue)- Cythnia > Steven - Emerald has a cloning glitch- almost every pokemon game has had some way to clone stuff
Maybe so, but I don't see a problem with that. The general quality of a game and someone's preference of a game for their own reasons are two totally different things. I acknowledge BW are "better" games than RBY, but I enjoy playing RBY more. Nostalgia certainly plays a part in that, but you rebuking me for that reason is laughable. I can use whatever reason I want to say I prefer one game over another.

i don't think most of your points are wrong, but I consider your reasoning flawed - take the competitive example. G/S/C -> R/S/E was the biggest 'jump' in competitive quality, but B/W is still the best, so why would that be used as a point to rank R/S/E ahead of B/W? similarly, abilities are definitely at their best now thanks to the Dream World.
i do like R/S/E's pokemon selection (great top 20), though it's not first for me in that either. and it was the only gen where contests were acceptable and not awful.

I only count the remakes because why bother with old ones when the new is better?

Say what? Who's hating on Suicune, Lugia, Forretress, Heracross, Tyranitar, Noctowl, and Ampharos. For having the lowest number of new Pokemon G/S did a fine job. People just have a bad impression of it because they don't like the starters and babies.

I like all of the ones you mentioned. Hell Ampharos is one of my favorites.
I didn't say there were NO good Pokemon. But the good ones weren't enough to make up for the awful filler Pokemon we got. Corsola, Stantler, Qwilfish, Snubbull, Sunkern/flora, Girafarig, Slugma, the babies...even the starters I don't really care about except for Cyndaqui. Meganium might be my least favorite fully evolved starter ever.
It's not really a case of GSC lacking good Pokemon, but there aren't enough, there's too many fillers, and the other gens have more good Pokemon overall. Even B/W's, which looked TERRIBLE at first, I warmed up to when I played the game.

Revamping the stat system was awful if you consider battling on something beside an online sim. They flat out overcomplicated the hell out of actual cartridge competitive battling needlessly there. Breeding for IVs and all was bad enough, and making us have to train them like that is just annoyingly unnecessary compared to the old way of just fighting whatever and maxing out every stat.
Contests were ehh; they were probably the best incarnation of contests so far but that whole element of the games is wasted dev time/data as far as I'm concerned.
Don't ever call the Regi quest "fun." That thing was an abomination and quite probably the worst puzzle in any Pokémon game. Like really, who the hell thought it was a good idea to put visual braille in a game as a puzzle for kids to solve?
Cynthia is empirically the best champion; Steven wasn't even the champ in Emerald anyway so if you're trying to support Emerald being the best with your points then this is completely irrelevant.
Emerald having a cloning glitch is non-unique; GSC had one too and I think DPP did as well.
I will give, though, that I did highly enjoy the non-aquatic parts of RSE and it definitely had the best incarnation of secret bases and the battle frontier.
The Pokeathlon was the best of the "contest" sidequest things, though. I would've been very happy had they brought some version of that back in B/W instead of the lame musicals.

This is something SO MANY PEOPLE either forget or are blissfully ignorant of.
I will grant that HGSS did a better job of giving Kanto some flavor by having stuff to do there that wasn't just "durr gym battle," but not a hell of a lot.
The Pokemon were hilariously under leveled for no reason, except maybe to keep the experience "authentic." But when I'm starved for EXP in general and you feed me level 10 Oddish or whatever, I'm going to be a little pissed.
Sixteen badges doesn't amount to much when the Gym battles in Johto were such a joke, Kanto felt like a half-hearted apology. Between half of Johto and half of Kanto, you could possibly make one competent league.
It was the single best concept for a post-game, but it fell short in so many areas.
