Using the Classic Controller Pro I just bought (it's nice). Anyway, I'm right at the beginning at the festival. What happens if I drink all eight sodas? Do I just get silver points? Cuz if so, I can pass. Don't feel like butting mashing atm.
And yes. Crono's mom, would hit.

Is this your first time playing it? If so, you're in for a treat
And yeah, the soda thing gets you nothing unless you drink all 8. Its probably the worst of all the mini games in terms of getting points. Beat up the robot for fast points
Eh, I'd say eat the lunch. Especially if you want to fight Gato a few times. It's the cheapest healing you can get, and the downside's really not that bad.
I like to low level until End of Time so I mostly ignore Gato. But beating him up a few times and getting the Lode Sword makes the early game very easy.
You can help the girl get the cat. I think you have to get some cat food from one of Norstein Bekkler's minigames, though I don't know which one. I've actually never done it.
Loving these graphics and music, btw. Very charming, like a fairy tale. I took a ferry south before entering the festival, and I loved some of the dialogue I found.
"They say a lady gave up her life to protect this forest hundreds of years ago. Very sad..."
Old jRPG ways to introduce yourself is the best of all ways to introduce yourself.

From: Ngamer64 | #028 Sounds like RPGLord's challenge... is accepted!
I'm not really accepting any challenges since I won't be playing Chrono Cross.
Anyway, thanks to Sytha's advice, I reunited girl and cat! And getting called "so sweet" in the process? Crono, you beta male. We make our way to Lucca's new teleport machine, but not before that high maintenance floozy Marle demands some candy. I let her have it (the candy, that is). The teleport machine goes haywire because of Marle's pendant, and she disappears. Without even talking to anyone, I step inside to save her, half cuz I'm assuming wasting time here may have some implications later on (I mean if eating a ****ing lunch will) and half because dat ass. In I go, and I am treated to... the trippiest SNES graphics I've ever seen. Chrono Trigger... good start with you!
I'm teleported to the same world, but 400 years earlier, in a time when we're battling Magus and his minions. lol ol' spike head is trying to compete with OoT Link, so cute. I gain my bearings with the battle system, which is pretty enjoyable in its infancy stages. I discover Marle, who is masquerading as Queen Leene (lmao, Queen Leene, are you serious. What's next, Marcy Darcy?). Not two seconds after, she mysteriously disappears, I catch up with Lucca who has joined me, and I have no idea what to do next.
Any hints (spoiler free, please) would be appreciated.
Still a 79% chance this won't be a playthrough topic.

Chrono Trigger is really minimal so it's tough to get too lost. there's only a few locations you can go to at any given time. later on you can get a little lost but that's only because lots of different eras are available to you, and even then it's easy to figure out if you read the plot. (which isn't a given!)
I don't think talking to the girl before hand has any effect. So long as you help her find her cat, it counts. But thinking about it. I always talked to her. But yea I think it's pretty free and easy.

if you talk to her first, something bad happens. if you don't talk to her, something good happens! I only know this because I spent a lot of time trying to get a perfect in that thing that happens later. weird programming glitch I think but a couple FAQs here have confirmed it. not sure if it's fixed in the DS version though.
I recruited Frog and found the secret door that leads into the rest of this cathedral, which I am thinking might be my first "dungeon" of the game. I tore through some monsters and found, blissfully, my first save point. That'll be all for right now, though I might do any session late tonight. I collected some accessories along the way, including a steel blade for Crono and Maidensuit for Lucca. So far, Lucca's Flame Throw tech seems to be the most broken attack. I only used it twice, but it did 100+ on each enemy, and at the cost of only 1 MP.
So far, so good. Good graphics and music can hook me early, and this game is swimming with both. The battle system is also funner than I anticipated. I'm just wondering one thing: what's the difference between experience points and tech points? Are tech points the only way you can learn new magic attacks?

Frog is among a small group of video game characters whom, due to my decade-long involvement with these contests, I have grown to love despite never playing their games. Over the years, this group has included such legendary characters as Gordon Freeman, Alucard, and Zack Fair. I've been a fan of Frog's ever since 2004, and man, have his matches sent me on some serious rollercoasters. I have laughed with Frog. I have cried with Frog. I have wined and dined with Frog, and I have listened to his beloved theme for hours on end. But not before today did I ever actually play him in a game. Today, I just did, and I used my amphibian crusader to slash stuff good. This is a pretty cool day, you guys!
Now I just gotta find that wind-blowing fool Magus...

PartOfYourWorld posted... And just a little clarification on Frog...

Up to you! I'm not gonna hold you to anything since I'm not gonna play CC. Also, I was planning to play CT on Virtual Console as soon as I heard about it in any case.

Chrono Cross is actually a fantastic game. It has a few flaws (Battle theme, interchangeable accents AKA characters) but aside from those its a masterpiece with a really great story, as well as an absolutely amazing soundtrack.
