I'm waiting for a level cap increase because Mt. Moon kicked my standard team's ass.

Can someone help with saving? Whenever I try to save my profile online, the waiting for the server takes literally forever. Is this normal or am I missing something? Furthermore, why doesn't it save on its own anymore? Before I could start the game up and just quit and my file would be there, but now it no longer works.

That level is indeed tough, but not that hard. I did it and none of my pokémons are even level 20 and I don't have duplicates.
2 String shots (Beedrill, Butterfly) on each side,
1 Growl (take your pick) in the middle,
Ivysaur/Wartortle if you have them on the left (Geodude control). If you picked Charmander, try a nidoran or anything that has a SE move against the geodudes. Switch this pokemon when the boss geodudes come from the other side if you feel they will get through, though I just let them stay there the whole time.
Then Fury Swipes (Mankey, Nidorans if they're level 20) or other high damage dealers. Place them on the right in the beginning. Let one stay there (preferably the one who deals the least damage) and switch around the other.

I've seen, in this topic and on CE, several similar strategies.
This should do the trick. I've played it 3 times with this setup and won two times. (And got a geodude, Sandshrew died though :( ) Then I got bored, and tried looking for Paras.

Rock Polish seems useless. I don't know if there's some kind of glitch with it, but mine barely lasts 2-3 seconds before wearing off. I can't seem to beat Mt. Moon either since even with Nidorino/a both using Double Kick at lv20 the Geodude barely even loses 50% of its HP.

I can't beat Mt. Moon still on any of them. Even with slow/paralyze and Nidoking and Mankey those Geodudes don't go down fast enough.

Growl is an absolute must in my experience. i've never won without it, Whirlwind included.

Yeah, growl is ridiculous. Makes them turn around, which is necessary for those geodudes. Give you a few passes at them to knock them out.

See, I found Growl to hinder more than it helped because there were times where they turned around so many times that they were right in the middle of an entire big wave and they ignored either the Geodude to kill them or they ignored the wave instead. I think Leer helped a lot more. It nullified his Harden and lowered the defense further.

In my experience, two string shots + growl means just about nothing will make it past a pair of fury swipe mankeys.

Yeah, they might target the geodude, but he'll be turned around and a lot of the rest of the wave will also be turned around.

I don't remember my set up, but the Geodudes never gave me trouble.

Instead, it's the huge swarms coming from both sides of the map at the same time with only two Pokemon each to handle all of them, PLUS the Geodudes if you're unfortunate enough to have them in the mix.

Letting even one slip by is irreparably awful because you can't reach them once they get past as certain point and it's basically one Geodude down automatically.

Horrible design here. This defines fake difficulty.

Still can't beat Mt. Moon on any of the 3 slots. I've managed to make it to the final wave several times, but then something always slips by. I kind of hate the rare encounter rate too since it's been annoying trying to find Clefairy and Paras on some of them.

Beat Mount Moon on my Red Version save <_<

Ekans with Glare in the middle

Wartortle with Water Gun (Substitute Ivysaur with Razor Leaf if you want, but I don't think Charmeleon can do it) and Butterfree with Confusion on the left

Mankey with Fury Swipes, Nidoqueen with Fury Swipes, and Jigglypuff with Round on the right


Swap the left and right every wave so that Mankey/Nidoqueen/Jigglypuff are always against the multi-pokemon wave. They CAN take out a boss, but just Wartortle and Butterfree can't handle a multi-wave, I don't think. Too slow, even with Glare. I haven't tried it, though.

Of course, since Ekans isn't in blue, and lol thunder wave vs ground types, the only option I can see for Blue Version is Butterfree with Stun Spore/Sleep Powder in the middle, which requires dupes which means 'no'

Could try Beedrill with String Shot I guess.

I basically had to get lucky on Mt. Moon when a Geodude was stuck on the right path. That level needs the nerfhammer bad.

The creator has said on his blog that he plans to nerf the level and make the current version into a challenge mode level. Also, there will be shiny pokemon added and the level cap will be risen (probably to 25) for the next update.

I just used my same strategy. Starter with growl in the middle, 2x string shot (or some paralysis move, Ekans has the lowest level one I believe), and 3 fury swipe mankeys (they get it at what, level 11?) being moved around to accompany waves.

I'm not sure that the difference between a level 15 and a level 20 in this is that big of a deal other than move selection.

Just did it again with a lvl 19 sandshrew (fury swipes) and a lvl 14 nidoran to replace two of the mankeys, so one "almost" 20 but I'm sure that could be replaced with a Nidoran (other gender)

Rock Blast destroys VF2 so hard

Like I can stick JUST Geodude on one side and he'll take out the entire 5-pokemon group on his own, even Butterfree/Beedrill unless he's unlucky with hit counts.


Incidentally, is there a faster way to level than grinding VF2? I'm practically done, but it gets dull.
