It was the latest Treehouse of Horror (XXXIII I believe?) and it was pretty good, I love the ending.

Also yes I watched it because of Super Eyepatch Wolf. I am not an American so I didn't grow up with The Simpsons, although I have watched the movie for some reason.

Been hearing the most recent stuff (within the past couple of seasons) has been generally much better than the 20 odd years prior, so maybe it might be worth watching the episodes from 2021 onward first?

Of course, I would strongly recommend watching the first 10 seasons since the 90's episodes were almost all The Simpsons at its best. Seasons 3 to 8 are what are generally considered the show's peak. but I would give the first two seasons and the two seasons after 8 a look as well.

Sadly, there are no second chances in the Guru, azuarc doesn't need one.

Yeah I mean the Simpsons is such a beast, you may as well go the safest route since that's still going going to give you over 100 episodes to watch. 1 and 2 have good stuff but 3-8 is the surefire hits and you can still be fairly safe going up to 11. 12 and 13 are certainly pushing it but still have more hits than misses.

After that it's literally a case of just picking and choosing a couple episodes a season at best. The Simpsons was legitimately bad there for a long, long time. We're still in the pick and choose stage now, but the episodes that are good are actually pretty damn good.

Ill join in with those saying seasons 1-13, pick and choose the commonly recommended ones from there, and then seasons 33&34. There are always really good ones but they get fewer and farther between.

The episode in question is absolutely a top-tier Simpsons episode so it isnt necessarily representative of the newer stuff. Although the last two seasons have been notably better anyway.

Id bet most of the Treehouse of Horrors are decent even in the bad years since the plots dont matter

I'm one who is fine with the simpsons even up to like season 15, but some of those THOH episodes are reeeeeally bad. Many are parodies for the sake of the thing being popular at the time and they forgot to put in the funny.

Start with Season 1.

I'm not kidding. While it is a Christmas special, the very first episode where they get their family dog is still a classic in my opinion.

New showrunner brought in a new approach to writing episodes, which has resulted in better scripts for the last couple years. But it's also still hit or miss, with a handful of standout episodes per season and still a bunch of mediocre-to-decent ones (but they still seem to be better on average than the past however many years). Season 34 was also an improvement over 33, so the trend will hopefully continue.

edit: He also wanted to stress that this doesn't mean the show is back to how it used to be, and probably never will be, but also the creators aren't trying to do that. Instead, it's simply become a different kind of good Simpsons.

I have not watched all of them (will eventually), but I strongly recommend A Serious Flanders from season 33 and the Treehouse of Horror from season 34, both mentioned in the video. Those two are absolutely classic-Simpsons level (but also very different tonally).
