Abstract
Objective: Determine the relative frequency with which guns in the home are used to injure or kill in self-defense, compared with the number of times these weapons are involved in an unintentional injury, suicide attempt, or criminal assault or homicide.
Methods: We reviewed the police, medical examiner, emergency medical service, emergency department, and hospital records of all fatal and nonfatal shootings in three U.S. cities: Memphis, Tennessee; Seattle, Washington; and Galveston, Texas.
Results: During the study interval (12 months in Memphis, 18 months in Seattle, and Galveston) 626 shootings occurred in or around a residence. This total included 54 unintentional shootings, 118 attempted or completed suicides, and 438 assaults/homicides. Thirteen shootings were legally justifiable or an act of self-defense, including three that involved law enforcement officers acting in the line of duty. For every time a gun in the home was used in a self-defense or legally justifiable shooting, there were four unintentional shootings, seven criminal assaults or homicides, and 11 attempted or completed suicides.
Conclusions: Guns kept in homes are more likely to be involved in a fatal or nonfatal accidental shooting, criminal assault, or suicide attempt than to be used to injure or kill in self-defense.

It's a pistol carbine though, it shoots the same exact ammo as a pistol just with the ability to aim better

I wouldn't say incredibly dangerous but definitely a seedy apartment complex. I actually didn't own a gun the first 37 years of my life, and could count on one hand how many times I had ever shot one. Then I got a mentally unstable neighbor who was threatening me and trying to kick in my door multiple times, and he already had a pending felony charge for threatening to kill police officers. That kind of caused me to reevaluate everything and I immediately went out and bought my first firearm.

If you want to contribute to an industry that enables 8 out of every 10 murderers in this country by allowing them easy access to the weapon, then by all means..dont.

Im just saying, if you want to participate in an insanity that results in over 300 people being shot every day, then I have to wonder why you think for a second that youd want to.

I mean really, if you want to double the chances of you being shot, and increasing the likelyhood that your spouse or partner will be shot (according to time magazine) then I have to recommend you to a therapist, seeing as Id prefer to live in a world where neither one of us needs to worry about that possibility.

The proliferation of weapons makes the world more dangerous. History and countless hours of research have already proven this. If you live in a shady apartment, save your money and move.

Scorpion's a pretty fun gun to shoot, could be a decent home defense gun with the right setup. I have an SBR'd pistol with the carbine handguard and suppressor like the one pictured here and I really like it.

Some people who run Glock pistols prefer an AR receiver that can run on Glock mags.

Yes. You dont ever want to be that .00001 chance it happens to you. Especially with the trend of all these armed gang young adults breaking into homes and cars.

We just had a news story where 4 presumably teenagers with guns burglarized a guys home in broad daylight. They broke his window and just ran in. He saw it through his cameras and waited at the top of his stairs. Once they stormed he shot the first guy and killed him.

No, if you're getting an AR platform just get 556 or 223.

If you want a carbine, get one that has interchangable magazines with a pistol.
For example Rugers 57 platform. Good carry piece, excellent home defense rifle.

Shotguns generally have less rounds you can carry.
Most aren't semiautomatic and most of the semis are 26in+ duck guns.
They're loud as fuck and bright and can't be suppressed. So follow up shots are going to be more difficult.
They have more recoil, again a problem for follow up shots and flinching (can be worked through)
They don't even have as much spread as you'd imagine in typical household ranges.
They have less barrier/armor defeating capabilities (kind of a larpy reason but it's still valid.)

A high capacity, easily controllable rifle is going to be your best friend in close quarter home defense.

The problem I have with those facts is simple. It proves almost nothing, of course owning a gun means you are more likely to have an injury from it, but that applies to anything you own. Car, water heater, kitchen knife, you could swap any of those in for firearm, and it have the same effect. The data doesnt really prove anything outside if you have this item, you have higher chance of injury.

There is better data to use, use children that found parents gun resulting injury, these have an actual cause and that is lack of training and safety measures. It shows not everyone should own a gun.
