Comfort Inn? Super 8? Hampton?

I'm meeting the family for vacation in a couple days. I'm trying to decide if I want to drive 9 hours or split it up. WWYD board 8?

9 hours I'd personally just finish the drive unless there's a cool place to stop and visit on the way I guess

I like the Homewood Suites or Home2 Suites from Hilton. Having a couch that's usually well away from the bed helps a lot, considering I usually stay up much later than my partner. The kitchenette is nice too, in case it ends up being needed.

The cheapest hotel that isn't a dump, so about a 3 star. Hyatt Place is a pretty good brand.

This, more or less.

I'll also settle for a slightly expensive one of it's located in a more convenient part of the town. Though if you're only stopping over that might be less of a consideration.

Stayed in a Drury Inn the last 2 weeks. Pretty mid-tier, about the minimum quality of what I'd want.

Hyatt Regency is always a good stay.

Typically the cheapest option that has at least a 4/5 on TripAdvisor has always served me pretty well.

This, 9 hours is honestly not that bad, i'd just stop and eat somewhere for lunch halfway through

I've gotten partial to Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express over the years.

You typically know what you will be getting.

I used to settle for 2 or 2.5 stars, though typically hotels would have been places to literally sleep and nothing else between days at a theme park.

Now 3 stars is an absolute minimum though I prefer to try and find a deal on 4 such that it's around the price of a 3.

I think the major factor (other than generally having more money than when I was young) is that I need more time for recovery from long days of activity so I'm much more likely to spend several hours in the room on a given day.

But to answer the topic at hand? I'd prefer to do 9 hours in a day than split it up. i've done 12-13 before (stopping twice for meals) and definitely liked having it all out of the way. More than that and I'd be much more inclined to split it up.

yeah, I decided to just drive it. I used to do 12 hour drives, but these days my back is usually screwed up the next day after long car trips. I'm just gonna load up on ibuprofen though. not worth the cost/hassle.

I do 7ish hour drives fairly frequently. I could probably do 9-10 if I had a real stop for lunch along the way instead just a 10 minute gas, pee, cram energy bar.

Oh I missed the driving part.

The Wednesday before last I drove from Florida to Indiana (12 hours) in one trip.

Last Wednesday I drove back in one trip.

I only stop for a hotel if the drive is more than 24 hours. But there are rarely ever reasons to drive if the drive is more than 8 hours (that's my cutoff when I'll fly instead, outside of really special circumstances).

I'm entangled in Marriott's loyalty system so I'll go to any of their hotels. I don't think they have a brand that is worse than 2.5 stars.

just drive like 4ish hours. Stop for food. Go for a little walk. Stretch out. Do the rest of the drive.
