So The Witcher 3's acclaim combined with the mixed-at-best reception to Mass Effect: Andromeda, Fallout 76, and Anthem caused a paradigm shift away from BioWare and Bethesda...and then the continued controversies around Cyberpunk 2077 tainted CD Projekt Red's reputation. Are Western-made open world games in a bit of a rut now or something? Genuinely curious here, since I remember when Fallout 3 and Skyrim were so big.

Agreed.

The only open world I actually consider to be good is BotW's, since it's actually designed around the world itself. Every other open world game I've enjoyed could have been better with less emphasis on a huge map.

Ghost of Tsushima is the biggest offender to me, that game has fun combat but it's practically impossible for me to replay with how much time it wastes on boring shit.
