I wasn't since I knew my PC (and internet, tbh) wouldn't be able to play the game, but man was it a fun trainwreck.

I do remember how much of a blowup this was, but even more than the game itself I remember how much shit Polygon got for how vehemently half their staff defended this game

I preordered this bad boy, lol.

Someone found a workaround. I don't remember if EA also stole the guys mod and used it for an official patch

Man for some reason I vividly remeber exactly when and where I was listening to this story's coverage on the bombast, eating lunch in a Sonic parking lot while I was doing temp work at the company office building.

I never even played, not sure why it stuck with me so much.

They also removed the fastest speed with a patch not long after release, it turned out that Cheetah speed was fucking up the servers with the way their always online worked, lol.

Funny how when SimCity 2013 was announced, the Cities: Skylines people were going "Well, we should pack it up. We're not going to be able to compete with that". Then when the SimCity launch shit the bed that gave them the confidence to finish their game, knowing it would be much better.
