I didn't see very many. Black panther was better than expected. Thor was far worse than expected.

Marcel the Shell with Shoes on is mine for this year. Family friendly but poignant, touching as well. Saw the latest Downton Abbey in the theater but didn't like it nearly as much as the first Downton; so have to go with Marcel.

Only watched one movie in 2022 - This Place Rules. I would have watched Suzume but it hasn't had a localization yet.

I don't see many new movies these days now that most of them suck.

For years, about the only movies I bothered seeing in a movie theater were the MCU films, because I'd take my younger nephew to see them. But he's in his 20s now, and the MCU has been a dumpster fire since Endgame, and we're still in the era of Covid regardless of what some people think, so I've kind of written it off completely by this point.

But now I'm going to be an Internet film hipster and say the best film of 2022 was RRR.

Think the only ones I saw were Turning Red, Weird Al, and Sonic 2. That's how I'd rank them, with Turning Red on top. I did like Sonic 2, just not as much as the first one.

I havent seen too many movies in 2022. Just not enough to interest me. I havent seen Wakanda Forever or Weird yet, so maybe they can top the list?

Ill give it to The Batman. Del Toros Pinocchio is the runner up, that one gets sleeper hit of the year. After that its either Sonic 2 and Dr. Strange and they were just ok. Sad year overall, honestly.

Lots of great movies came out in 2022. My absolute favorite was Triangle of Sadness, but I also greatly enjoyed Aftersun, After Yang, Happening, Crimes of the Future, The Northman, and Broker. If I divide things by arbitrary genres, Speak No Evil was my favorite horror movie, with The Menu, if youd consider it a horror, following close behind. Everything Everywhere All at Once was my favorite action. The Batman was probably the best superhero movie I saw. For animated movies I have a tough time choosing between Mad God, Turning Red, Del Toros Pinocchio, and Wendell & Wild. So yeah, overall, lots of great movies and Im sure Im forgetting some great ones. And I still havent seen all the 2022 movies Im interested in! Highly anticipating All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, The Whale, and a handful of others.

As a side note, I didnt think Phase 4 of the MCU was as bad as lots of people on the Internet tend to vocalize, but Ive also thought most of the movies in the previous stages have been overly formulaic and fairly cookie cutter. I appreciated that they tried to experiment a bit with some of the series and movies for this phase. Not saying its the best phase or anything particularly amazing, but I found the quality to be consistent enough with the previous three.
