Over/Under: How many games will arrive in their original box?


Though I almost never buy used games from GameStop, they ran a promo yesterday where if you buy four games priced less than $10, you get them for $20 ($5 a game). I decided to live dangerously and order a shitload.

Here's my haul. All are on PS4 except for Dead Space (PS3). Some of these I already own and plan on giving to friends. The bolded ones I haven't played.

  • Banner Saga Trilogy
  • Batman: Arkham Knight
  • Dead Space
  • Death Stranding
  • Dragon Quest XI (vanilla)
  • Final Fantasy XV (vanilla)
  • Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning
  • Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
  • Monster Hunter: World
  • Nioh 2
  • Persona 5 (vanilla)
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider


My shipment arrives Thursday. Can't wait to see what condition everything arrives in! This is gonna be hilarious.

PS4 isn't super old. People probably still had the boxes for most of those. I'll take the over. Not to say that I expect much over, because this is still Gamestop, but I don't think 5-7 is unreasonable.

Bana Saga Trilogy arrived in mint condition AND complete-in-box with a poster, art booklet, and music CD. Stunned I got all the bonus material with it. Also thrilled.

Other 11 set to arrive later today.

Final results below. 8 out of 12 were complete-in-box.

  • Banner Saga Trilogy - CIB mint condition
  • Batman: Arkham Knight - CIB, not sure if download codes have been redeemed
  • Dead Space - CIB, but the box is non-GH and the disc is Greatest Hits. Oh, GameStop.
  • Death Stranding - CIB mint condition
  • Dragon Quest XI (vanilla) - Generic case
  • Final Fantasy XV (vanilla) - CIB, not sure if download codes have been redeemed
  • Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning - Generic case
  • Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain - CIB with map and everything
  • Monster Hunter: World - Generic case
  • Nioh 2 - Generic case
  • Persona 5 (vanilla) - CIB
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider - CIB, case was beat up


Overall, not a bad haul. Kinda baffled that the newest games (Nioh 2 and Amalur) arrived in generic cases while I managed to score CIB non-Greatest Hits versions of Batman and MGSV.

I will probably return the four that came in generic cases within the 7-day window.
