Dunno if this needs a second remake, but fuck it, I'll buy it anyway!

I'd say they were feeling spiteful for LoU1 getting leaked, but that was their fault for thinking "HD Remake of an HD Remake + We're making a TV Show" was the tentpole announcement to hand over to Keighley.

If this was meant to be revealed at a Nintendo direct that makes me think it will be sooner rather than later

I've only played the "proper" Ogre Battle games. Maybe some day I'll go back and play this.

The ogres are the tactics we made along the way

Hot take: I didn't really like Ogre Battle 64. After playing the SNES original to death, I thought the added mechanics were clumsy and unwieldy, the gameplay was slow, and somehow even the UI was generally less friendly. Plus basilisks. Fuck basilisks and their inevitable petrification of your leaders. I quit that game on the same stage three times.

I concede that some of the stuff they added was (sort of) needed because the SNES game was stupidly cheesable, but that's part of what makes it so endearing and the changes they made were incredibly heavy-handed and unfun.

As an aside, I'm currently playing Symphony of War: Nephilim Saga, which came out this week.

I also quit the game for a long time on the basilisk stage. Basilisk are 100% the worst enemy to fight followed by the pumpkin head guys. Luckily you can manipulate who the basilisk targets to ensure it isn't your party leaders by changing your formation. And a golem team actually uses them as a power up.

Having gone back and played through the whole thing a couple years ago it was such fun. A remake could easily make some positive changes though. It needs an option to speed up time on the field and a quicker to navigate UI. Also something to make it easier to change/control alignment without using the item dup glitch. There are also some mechanics that are just overly complicated like the secret Chaos Frame stuff.

Didn't the creator originally say that he'd planned out nine 'chapters' to the Ogre Battle Saga, and decades later we've still only got three of them, and they just keep rereleasing two of them?

LUCT is a great game, but how about actually making one of the other episodes, eh?

as is often the case, i think the real reason it's never happened is because they never sold well (and it wasn't even a square ip originally) and the devs probably aren't connected to the company any longer, so it's just not on the table, much as an hd2d style would clearly work for a new "mainline" entry

Probably, considering the original has a A New Hope-esque indicator that it isn't Episode I in the opening scene. I forget if it was episode 4 or 5, but it's definitely not 1.

OB64 very obviously takes place soon afterward, considering some of the recurring characters.

And the epilogue of OB64 references another giant war 6 months later.
