It's true. It started off with early 2000s action jrpg games that received mixed or bad reviews from critics as they couldn't get the right footing to make a good japanese role playing game..and it didn't get any better when they released a 2006 xbox 360 launch exclusive turned based jrpg which was either panned or average reviewed..that would also be their last turn based jrpg game..

It wasn't until Demon's Souls when their luck finally changed in 2009 and now they are making hits with these souls games. I wonder if they'll ever try to go back into turn based again...

They did and they were all great games but unfortunately they never got the props they deserved.

I miss Armored Core. Supposedly a new one is in the works.

I got Daemon x Machina when it was free on Epic but haven't found the time to play it yet.

Eternal Rings was the first (and to date only) game I have played by them. Honestly not a bad idea for a game, but they never really did much with it and the whole game felt like a rush job (which given that they were releasing 3-4 games a year at the time is probably an accurate statement).

Echo Night and Kuon aren't really JRPGs, though? Aren't those both survival horror?

If you have an hour to spare, THH talks about more obscure FS games

Neither is Armored Core. FromSoftware made many different types of games.

I remember renting and playing a card battle game they made... Lost Kingdom? *googles* Lost Kingdoms.

I didn't think it was terrible, actually, but it wasn't really my type of game.

I liked Lost Kingdoms. I always meant to buy the sequel, which I understand was better than the first one, but never got around to it while buying obscure GC games for reasonable amounts of money was still possible. Perhaps one of these days I'll get around to acquiring a copy.

I liked the idea of DxM, but by the time I finished I was very much done with it. There are a ton of customization options, but most of them really aren't impactful enough to feel like you're growing meaningfully by unlocking them as the game progresses, nor to really justify experimenting with different builds. It's not a bad game, by any means, but it's a lot shallower than it had the potential to be, which meant the missions felt pretty samey by the end.

Those were like the Proto Souls I think?

They were just starting to make a name for themselves at that point.

Yes, and I managed to get most of them. Rough around the edges, but not as bad as one might think (IMO).
