Big Korean ARPG MMO is finally getting released in a few days (out now for early access).

I've honestly not looked into this game at all but it seems to be one of the better ARPGs and it's completely free so why not!

Anyone else planning on playing or already played it?

I've heard the game has some Nazi connections. Probably better to sit this one out and look away

As for the game, the marketing machine must be doing its job because I have never seven a screenshot, much less video, and I still found myself looking up if it was coming to consoles a few hours ago.

I am in the server queue after I had to refownload because the repair on my file failed.

Geez, 2 hours ago I had never heard of this game, and now I've had it spring up in 3 different places. Hell of a flash marketing campaign to come out of nowhere like that.

Yeah I'm in the same boat. I had never even heard of this game as of yesterday and then I opened Twitch today and literally every top streamer is playing it all day like they've been planning for months. I don't even see #ad in their titles so I think they're just playing it out of actual excitement.

It's an Amazon MMO game and New World just came out from them, blew up huge for a week, then fucking crashed and burned, so yeah maybe give it some time.

The difference is that New World was a game MADE by Amazon.

Lost Ark is actually a fairly "old" game that Amazon has just picked up Publishing rights to.

Lost Ark is actually a fairly "old" game that Amazon has just picked up Publishing rights to.

I think I remember seeing the game on twitch last year, and apparently the game was released in 2018 in Korea

You actually did your research and even said it's a Korean MMO in the OP. It's easy to mistake Amazon as a Korean game developer though...

planning to check this game out on friday when it opens to everyone. not enough of an ARPG player to pay for 3 days of early access

I think I'm leaning toward Deadeye just based on watching character attacks on the website. Haven't looked at any tier lists to see what might be actually good.

Some pals of mine raised my awareness of this game.

I'll be giving it a whirl, quite literally too since I plan to roll a Berserker. Big sword go brrrrr.

I'm looking forward to playing this all day tomorrow! The early access didn't really seem to have server issues so fingers crossed the actual launch isn't a mess.

I believe there is also a separate tier list for PvE and PvP so just play what seems fun unless you're very dedicated to one or the other

I wouldn't get too invested in a hyper grindy Korean mom in general

launch already delayed indefinitely (specifically they hope to resolve it within a couple of hours but it's unclear)

Ouchie wawa. I pre downloaded it last night on the premise that I could start catching up to my pre purchase simp friends during work

Yeah I kinda planned my whole day off today around playing this game so I've been sitting around doing nothing which sucks.

I got to 50 last night and I've been enjoying the game. The story is whatever but it's presented to make it feel pretty epic.

I'm surprised how good just sailing around on your boat is when you get it and such.

The combat is fine and I appreciate the absolutely ridiculous amount of content but it didn't really grab me today!

Arenas look fun. I guess theyre stat controlled- you just have to hit level 26

3 hours and I'm pretty lukewarm towards the game. It's Grim Dawn mixed with Dungeon & Fighter.

Have you played PSO1, by any chance? I got to try that out on PS2 way back in the day -- episode 1, at least -- and although I had a friend who was SUPER into it, so I ended up getting roped into some local multiplayer on a number of occasions, I was never into it. The combat was ridiculously stiff, the gameplay loop wasn't that interesting. It was like playing Diablo 1, clearing one or two map floors, and then going back to futuristic Tristram, except I was never clear on how useful my upgrades were or what I was really trying to achieve.

I'm sure PSO2 is way better, and I don't want to hijack this thread to talk about PSO2 over Lost Ark, but I know how much you champion the game, so I figured I'd ask if you had some sense how much of an upgrade the game was fundamentally. I suppose simply from almost 20 years of technology later it simply has to be better, but the core gameplay wasn't anything exciting, so that's not saying much.

Did I say something confusing, or do you just not know what Phantasy Star Online is?

Not really digging the aesthetic in PSO2 so I might just drop Lost Ark and wait for D4. Diablo 4 seems like it's going to have some MMO elements but it'll be an ARPG first instead of the other way around.

One of my favorite games was Marvel Heroes back in the day and I felt like that game had the perfect balance (for me). There were like 50 characters who all played differently enough that switching between them felt fun but each one also captured a pretty good fantasy of actually playing as that hero.

You could roam a few big areas with other players where random events like bosses would spawn or you could do raids with a group of 20. But there was also a lot of solo content and good ARPG farming opportunities.

My favorite thing was little one-shot dungeons with a boss who dropped specific gear. So if you wanted this specific item then ONLY this boss dropped it. It provided reasons to actually farm different content. You also got bonus chests if you killed 100 and 250 monsters in the dungeon to encourage actually killing stuff instead of just rushing the boss.

There were so many good ideas in that game.

I've never played it and have really only heard fans talk about it so I don't have a firm impression what the gameplay was like. 2 at least, and especially the update, definitely priotized the combat and making it feel fluid

What exactly do you mean by 5% ARPG and 95% MMO? I felt the opposite - though there is an abundance of collectible systems or something with constant "reward" claims all the time, which I think is more like mobile games than MMO's. It feels targeted and not as pointless and empty as I feel mobile games make that stuff.

I dunno about that PSO2 recommendation.... that's the worst game in that regard I've ever played. I basically felt like I was playing a meter filling simulator. New World wasn't as bad as base PSO2 but didn't have anything to do besides run around and do active time events.

It's hard to explain exactly but the gear and skill systems feel a lot closer to WoW than Diablo. There's basically no meaningful gear or skill choices while you're leveling. I mean this is true in a lot of ARPGs honestly but I like to feel like I have at least SOME control over how my character is playing instead of "give this skill +10 crit chance" or whatever the system is. I see that later upgrades do actually change how the skill functions which is nice though.

But I've decided I'm going to keep playing because I did have fun yesterday when I was actually fighting stuff. I did a hard dungeon with 4 other players and it was pretty good. I think it's just all of the other moments that are leaving me a little underwhelmed. The quests are so bland and boring but they're absolutely required because killing monsters without a quest only provides like 5XP.

I shouldn't feel like I'm wasting time to stop and kill monsters in the world but if they're not part of a quest then there's no reason to get off my mount and fight them.

I dunno, I like lost ark a lot more than d3, and I have no faith in d4

The overall pacing, plot, and quest structure is more coherent, and I like not having to micro manage my inventory as much

Picking 8 out of 14 (or whatever) abilities feels nice, and the pvp stat templates are what I want from a game like this

We will see what I end up doing. I might just perpetually derp around in arenas at level 30

Played a good chunk yesterday and had more fun than my first session. Switching between pistol, shotgun, and rifle for the Deadeye is a lot of fun even if some of the skills feel super overpowered compared to others.

There's one skill where you flair your guns in a circle and it completely wrecks the entire room on a 10 or 12 second cooldown. I don't have numbers but I'm thinking like 5000 damage as an example. Then there's another skill I unlocked at level 26 where he just fires his gun twice and it does like 400 damage. It has a 6 second cooldown but the power disparity between these two skills is very confusing, especially because the weak skill didn't unlock until 26.

But I'm having a good time so far so whatever. Also this game runs better on my PC than Diablo 2 Resurrected which is pretty sad. That game is optimized so poorly it's painful.
