I have been looking at the top posts on /r/AITA lately and I noticed that a huge amount of people who are determined to be mega assholes end up getting their whole ass Reddit account banned. Why is that lmao?

because they can't accept that they're pieces of shit and just go off on tirades that are really, really obscene

When you click on their username it straight up says Suspended.

Long as we're on the subject, I'd like to get some input on my story. I tried to post it there before, but I couldn't because I didn't have enough karma or some other dumb reason.

AITA for refusing to give up the last spot in a cooking course in grade school to a girl?

Just for extra context, I'm a guy. I also don't remember all the details but I'll try my best.

At one point in fourth or fifth grade, my class had an opportunity to take part some extracurricular courses; short time, and limited availability. There were two classes; I don't remember the first one, but it may have been some kind of sport, but in any case I didn't have much interest in it. The other was cooking, which I was actually interested in trying.

So I signed up for the cooking course, and actually got the last spot; it was otherwise filled with girls. But shortly afterward a girl was upset because she wanted to be in the cooking course, but it was now full. At this point the teachers there came up to me and began trying to convince me to give up my spot in the course for her. I really wanted to take the course and wasn't interested in the other course at all, so I refused.

I'm normally a nice person, and if a situation like that came up again I like to think I might have actually relented. But something about that whole situation just hit me the wrong way. I wanted to be there just as much as everybody else, and had just as much right to. So why were they only asking me specifically to walk away?

To be honest I don't remember how it ended beyond that. I don't even remember if I actually took the course or not, so I guess it wasn't really worth the fight in the end.

I think I would say say NAH. You did nothing wrong because you chose the course you wanted. That said, Im not exactly sure how the teachers asked. If they asked nicely a few times, it was them just trying to help the girl. Though if they were mean about it, then they would be the assholes

Maybe because these people are assholes and as assholes they have trouble not acting like assholes and get themselves banned due to their asshole behavior on other subs.

The teachers were assholes for being sexist bigots.

Though if it was in fourth or fifth grade, then the real answer is probably that everyone there was an asshole, because most kids are little shits.

Giving up the spot would 100% have been a favour on your part, not anything you should have felt obligated to do. It sounds to me like the central issue was that the teachers felt that girls had more right to be in the cooking class than guys, which is sexist nonsense. You definitely were not the asshole.

If have to post in AITA for clarification, you are most likely AA (Already an Asshole). Also you aren't supposed to provide a letter in acronyms for "the" or "an".

The people trying to pressure you were of one of two opinions:
"Cooking isn't for guys" - sexist
"Guys should give up their spot for girls" - sexist

You don't have to, but it's not uncommon to do so if it makes the acronym more pronounceable or otherwise easier/more enjoyable to use, much like it's not uncommon to exclude initials entirely for that purpose, or add extra ones for certain syllables within one word (DNA, for example, is "DeoxyriboNucleic Acid"). If you do, however, best practice is to not capitalize it (or any other words that wouldn't be capitalized in a title).
