The actual metric that matters is how many people signed up for the Expansion Pack. If a bunch of people who disliked the video bought the expansion anyways, Nintendo won't see any reason to change anything.

The best part about this entire thing, is this is a problem Nintendo solved literally 15 years ago with the Wii Virtual Console. Instead of trying to scam people with yet another bullshit subscription service, why not just offer the games for sale for a reasonable price? It's absolutely mind boggling how they have managed to ruin an innovative and successful business model just through sheer ignorance and stupidity.

I think the idea is that the pass will eventually include more new stuff than just Animal Crossing DLC, like Game Pass, but I honestly don't know. It's a pretty shitty Game Pass, and this whole rollout has been weird. But while I don't see them putting big new games like BotW2 in it, I could see them including a BotW2 expansion pass.

Unless of course this whole thing flops terribly because it was rushed out and everyone hates it, which I'm fine with happening

There are probably only 21 N64 games worth playing. The N64 was very top heavy, in that it had some really great games, but there's a VERY steep drop off in quality from the A tier to the B tier.

Pretty much, I know people complain about the lack of N64 games on the virtual console, but honestly it included most of the important titles, outside of Rare titles which they no longer have easy access to.

I know that's something of a trend with Nintendo (new game in ___ series) but here I think the hate is largely from people who don't think buying it makes any sense. And it's not like there's FOMO with a handful of N64 games with emulation issues.

Imo it's in general a fair price and I think video games as a whole are undervalued for what they give us and the time spent making them (says the guy who only buys things on sale)

My issue with it is that you don't know what you're getting because they are not transparent with their road map. Does this mean no new consoles? Any more DLC as part of this in the future? Who knows

90% of the time, I find subscription services to be a borderline scam, and this is no exception. They're delivering less than what they offered on the Wii VC, for more than the cost that any reasonable person would play for the games they would actually play.

I won't say that a bunch of N64 games don't have value, in terms of how good of a time you get for your money. It wouldn't necessarily be cheap to buy the cartridges now either. But renting them to us to use on their proprietary emulator after they've been at best sporadically available to buy on their platforms at all for all these years, it doesn't exactly feel like "dev creates a game and sells it" so much as "company finds a new way to monetize old software."

Yeah I'd agree that new games are generally undervalued but charging a subscription at this price for a bunch of ROMs they have laying about is pretty ludicrous.

I'd be all for it (even at a higher monthly rate) if this was an all-inclusive platform that encompassed at least a significant portion of the entirety of Nintendo's library, but they're probably never going to get that serious about preserving the availability of their older games when they've had success for generations now just drip feeding a smattering of games.

N64 theoretically has a fantastic library to subscribe to if they actually gave you a substantial collection.
Its full of games that are fun for like half an hour once every couple years, so you dont want to actually buy them outright for $10 like they used to charge on the VC.

but the stuff theyre offering now is mostly the stuff I would rather just pay $10 outright for and not worry about being subscribed to another thing. Just let me purchase Ocarina from you, you turds.

I know N64 has one of the smallest libraries (and smallest good libraries) of any system anyone still cares about but the initial lineup is clearly not everything from even the top tier.

Honestly if they make the online like, average for N64 games I would maybe say its worth it for MK64 and Mario Tennis/some of the genesis stuff

but its not, and on top of the bad emulation

I dont think Ive played Sin and Punishment or Yoshis Story so maybe I still get it somewhere down the road

DK64 may have been made by Rare, but it's owned by Nintendo. It's been released on the virtual console.

Let's be real, when it comes to universally loved games with wide appeal on the N64 (and excluding the Rare games because licensing), you probably get:

• SM64
• MK64
• Star Fox 64
• OoT
• Majora's Mask
• SSB
• Star Wars Rogue Squadron
• Paper Mario
• Maybe some of the Mario Party/Sports Games

So assuming the average player wants all of those games, at a $10 price point, you're looking at $80 all in. Not getting the subscription pays for itself in less than a year and a half
