Disclaimer: I could do the kids version where it's a long jump rope spun by other people, and I jump in on rhythm in the middle. Yes, I can do that.

But the act of spinning the rope and jumping more than like... twice... I've never been able to do it. I feel like a failure. I'm in decent shape but I guess I have no coordination for this sort of thing? Any tips?

I never learned. There are a bunch of skills like that where it might not matter at this point. Would be nice to learn to ride a bike though.

I was an uncoordinated chump with no athletic skills, so I couldn't do it. I haven't tried recently, but I'm pretty sure I'd be worse at it.

Honestly, unless your ropers are intentionally trying to fuck you up you should be able to make it to a decent number

Kids are little shits,, though. So i wouldn't blame you for not making it

You did indeed stab me in the back. However, you are only level one, whilst I am level 50. That means I should remain uninjured.

I think TC was trying to do the solo kind.

my elementary school had a jump rope team that basically did choreographed performances to music with some basic / intermediate tricks. then wed perform at like school assemblys and like local sports events. i was one of 3 boys on the team and did that for 3 years. its been like 15 years since then but i can definitely still jump rope pretty well and do a bunch of basic tricks, though i dont jump rope often anymore.

Ive still never been able to do double dutch at any point in my life though

I can solo jump rope, but I can't for the life of me do it when others are spinning the rope.

solo seems much simpler than others spinning imho

uhhhh just take it slow to start? like so slow you can hardly even call it skipping rope if need be, then start picking up as you're capable

I tried to learn doubles a couple years ago and it didn't go well. But singles? Heck yeah.

Would be nice to learn to ride a bike though.

Never did this, either.

As a kid I learned to jump rope, one foot in front of the other, almost like I was running. One foot over, and then the other.

I only found out later that the more common technique is to hop.

Yes.

It was a gym class activity in elementary school and I did the "jump rope for heart" charity event a handful of times.

I'm actually decent. I can do the normal hop until I get tired, the double hop with some consistency, and the children's skip method azuarc described. I could never do the "boxer skip" though - that one takes real practice.

My most shameful athletic fail is never learning how to ride a bike, and I'm too embarrassed to learn now because I'm so old.

I haven't jumped rope in forever, but I imagine I could still do it, even if it's at a slow pace.

Never learned how to swim though.

Interesting. I'm normally the sort of uncoordinated, clumsy person who wouldn't be able to do something like this (I cannot learn how to ride a bike for instance), but I've always been fairly good at jump rope.
