The best part of either film is the 6 seconds of Morpheus fighting the Twins in Reloaded

I hated Reloaded so much I never bothered to see Revolutions.

And I have no interest in the fourth one.

The Chateau-through-Freeway sequence in Reloaded is pretty great. It leaves me looking on the overall movie more fondly than I should. Burly Brawl is also fun even if it (or more specifically its CGI) aged terribly.

Revolutions is just trash (good music at least, great setup to final fight moment, but yeah... just so disappointing overall)

I can only imagine how bad the 4th movie will be...

The one that didn't have that one dancing scene in the middle of the movie. (I think the second one is the one with that scene so I guess the third one.) I just remember I liked the one without that scene better though I have not seen either in years so take this with a grain of salt.

Exactly this

Neo's chateau fight and the whole freeway chase is dynamite. Probably like a 20m-ish sequence? And it's some of my favourite action movie stuff ever. Everything on either side of it isn't particularly great

But that alone makes it better than Revolutions

Zion cave rave in Reloaded, most likely.

Yeah, I can't remember the last time I watched Reloaded in its entirety, I'm sure the last time I did I skipped a good chunk of the Zion part (especially the rave scene)

But I'll watch the Chateau and Freeway segments probably once or twice a year.... hell just talking about it now, probably will tonight, hahaha.

Can't remember the last time I watched anything from Revolutions.... surely I did at least once after I saw it in theatres. I remember really digging the soundtrack and was listening to it all the time after the movie, but yeah.

the movies are immensely boring. i tried to give the films another chance about a year ago, and it blew my mind how boring they were

it didn't help that the fight scenes in both movies felt hollow. yeah, the highway scene was technically impressive for the time but there was no dramatic weight to it

stepping outside of everything else, it was a dumb decision to nerf Neo so hard. He went from being God at the end of the matrix to... idk... a good fighter that can fly. They should've made him ridiculously overpowered in the matrix and put all of the drama in either the real world or how the machines handled him by changing the matrix

Pretty much this.
Revolutions is bad, but not quite Jupiter Ascending bad.

Excited enough for the 4th that I'll probably watch it when it launches on hbo max. Hoping for mindless over the top action sequences and have no expectations on the story.

First movie - well paced movie with exceptional world building and decent enough plot and action thrown in
Second movie - uses what the first movie established to create a satisfying loop of pseudophilosophical babble into great fight scene ad nauseam
Third movie - matrix movie subverts our expectations by having maybe 20% of the movie actually in the damn matrix

I actually think the second movie and the first are much closer in quality than the second and third are, and in a lot of ways prefer Reloaded outright just because hey, I don't really need much more than some good promos into fun fight scenes over and over.

Like the first is an "objectively better movie" and all that, and honestly the only reason reloaded's babbling between the fight scenes works is because the first movie set everything up so well, but reloaded is just fun and hype in a way that the first movie can't reach.

Revolutions is just a bad film

He bled in his first boring fight scene in 2

In 1 he could flex and warp the curvature of space. He flew inside of smith as if he was a liquid and disappeared. Functional invincibility isn't the point- creative omnipotence was

Instead, in the sequel we got a bunch of pointless fight scenes because $$$

Pretty much everything in the Matrix lore that doesn't actually take place in the Matrix isn't really very interesting. The more you see of Zion the worse the movies become. It was the weak point of Reloaded too. I don't really want to see guys in power armor shooting at robots for 40 minutes. That's not interesting that's generic sci fi tripe, just added bloat to a setting that was pretty solid otherwise. The whole conflict should've been resolved in The Matrix with very little to do outside of it.

I thought the attack on zion was great. It's funny cuz after the first movie everyone wanted to see zion.

Not sure how high the stakes can go if you can attack them at their source. It would render much of the first movies stakes moot with the attack outside of the matrix as neo tries to get out, if you don't like the outside attacks.

Yeah to me Zion in general served its purpose as something that exists and is believable as what a society of people stuck in the matrix would look like but I definitely didn't need to see any more of it than they showed in Reloaded. This may not be true of everyone.

Granted at the first movie we didn't have a great idea of what it looked like so it's possible if Zion was different in some way I would've liked to see more of it, but what Matrix Reloaded established to me as Zion is something I don't want a movie about so Revolutions falls flat hard. It's like watching a Terminator movie with no Terminator in it.

revolutions has some good stuff but there's also a lot of pointless crap and it totally fails at being a satisfying conclusion to the story. instead of going with "reality is actually another matrix" to explain neo's powers (which would have been a cool plot twist), we're going with NEO IS JESUS.

neither sequel comes anywhere close to being as good as the original (and i think the original is overrated).

I felt like the main drawback was the surge deus ex at the end. Because if they could have done that then why not at the start.

Reloaded used to be my favorite of the trilogy but overtime I've come down to Earth on it. The freeway scene is the best part imo. The story was simple enough to follow until you get to the end of the movie, then it starts going off the rails.

Revolutions was just a mess throughout where the story didnt get any easier to follow and i still dont know if I understand it.

Didnt they film the two movies back to back? That was a mistake imo.
