Should have been 20 years hard labor

But that would be considered "cruel and unusual punishment".

Loughlin, 56, was sentenced to two months of prison, two years of supervised release, 100 hours of community service and a $150,000 fine.
There's a little more to it then the topic's title, but it's still a joke punishment.

100 hours of community service is so much more effective than any time in prison really

That is pretty cruel and unusual lol. I know others suffer through that just to get by, but the idea is to help those people not have to do that. Not to enjoy watching rich people have to do it too.

Didn't people just buy their kids into college? While at the height of rich entitlement, it doesn't really have any particular victims unless I'm missing some context. Though I would say a much larger fine as well as some kind of forced donations to several college fund charities should have happened.

I've honestly not kept up with this news story, all that punishment just because she bribed admissions office to get her kids into college?

I still say this story is the most boring thing in history. They want people to care about "corruption" from C-list celebrities. Meanwhile the billionaires are doing this same exact thing legally by donating directly to the universities.

Although I cant say Im surprised, the courts usually hand out easy sentences to first time offenders.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/21/us/lori-loughlin-sentencing-college-admissions-scam/index.html

""I went along with a plan to give my daughters an unfair advantage in the college admissions process," Loughlin said during her virtual sentencing hearing. "In doing so I ignored my intuition and allowed myself to be swayed from my moral compass. I thought I was acting out of love for my children. But in reality, it only undermined and diminished my daughters' abilities and accomplishments."

She said she now understood that her decision helped exacerbate existing inequalities in society.
"While I wish I could go back and do things differently, I can only take responsibility and move forward," she said as her voice cracked and she began to cry.
"I am truly, profoundly and deeply sorry," she said, using both hands to wipe tears from her face. "I'm ready to face the consequences and make amends."
Loughlin, best known for her portrayal of Aunt Becky on the sitcom "Full House," and Giannulli, a fashion designer, pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges, taking advantage of what Singer referred to as his "side door" into the university by creating fake profiles for the girls and passing them off as recruits on the crew team.
"I deeply regret the harm that my actions have caused my daughters, my wife and others," Giannulli said during his virtual sentencing hearing. "I take full responsibility for my conduct. I'm ready to accept the consequences and move forward with the lessons I've learned from this experience.""

That's pretty apologetic I guess.

It wasn't just a simple "pay money, get my kid in school" though.

It was like a massive ring with some head guy arranging for falsified transcripts, false test scores, cheating, falsifying learning disabilities to get preferential treatment, stuff like that.

Edit: And the reason her and her husband are actually getting this punishment is because they were the only ones to actually fight it and claim innocence to doing illegal things. Huffman accepted a plea deal and avoided prison. She got like probation and community service or something.
