I don't think so. It has to do with religious freedom and the separation of church and state. Churches are treated separately from other general charitable organizations

Well, they are 501c3s, but the public good they're advancing is their religion. So the service itself is the charity

I think when you have a whole section of the church dedicated to business matters like a lot of churches down here do, it's time to get your ass taxed. They're not just organizing bake sales with offices like that. One of the churches I've done work in has a very nice business wing. The pastor's office is even nicer and you can tell he has a lot of money.
