On the way home from my kids' karate class, this one stretch of road has no streetlamps and gets really dark. Cat bolted out from some brush on the side of the road right in front of me.

I pulled over and walked both sides of the road with a flashlight but couldn't find it. Turned my car around to go back and check again, but nothing.

Definitely hit it because I heard it bump under my car :((( Was going maybe 25mph and hit my brakes. Didn't see any blood or fur on my car but it was dark and it rained overnight.

Slept like shit. Going to drive that stretch on my way home from work when it's light out and check again. Hoping it lived and wasn't injured too bad. Going to keep an eye out for missing cat notifications in my area. Would hate to be the owner worrying about their cat not coming home :(

Another thing happened on my way home last night. Somebody ran a red light literally right past a cop. Ran a red left turn arrow and the cop was in the lane to the right to go straight. Cop threw on the blues and pulled them right over. Instant karma.

You may have just winged it. It may be fine. I know my area has tons of cats and dogs out constantly. Everyone around where I live it pretty cautious since we see them out everyone. Not to mention all the strays. And I would definitely look out for posters. I remember when I was walking my dog once, I saw a lady outside calling for a pet. She was crying because she heard that the pet might have been run over. And even if the pet had died, it feel good to have some closure sometimes. Instead of always wondering.

As a kid, quite young (think I might have been in first grade?), I was run over by a car in Arizona, and then the driver wasn't sure if he hit something, so he backup up over me.

Couldn't walk for awhile but my legs just bent (the bones) cause I was young, they didn't break.

So who knows, the cat may be fine, just used up one of it's lives.

Hopefully you're not a cat murderer.

I wonder if that would work as a pick up line.

I don't think so. I mean that would scare away the pussy.

I guess I should clarify I meant the "Hopefully your not a cat murderer" line, not the "I ran over a cat last night" line.

The internet can be a hard place to make jokes.

Yeah I keep thinking about the owner and how they'd worry, or if I wounded the cat and it's suffering alone somewhere... Can't get it out of my head. Going to try to follow up and look in that area over the next couple weeks for signs or whatever. If I did wound it mortally I hope it didn't suffer long :(

I really hope so. Glad you are okay. Used to be an avid cyclist and I've been hit four different times. People don't pay attention. Can't imagine what it's like these days with everyone on their phones

Cats are stupid. I used to have a security job that had me checking multiple properties over night. So I spent a lot of time driving late at night. It was pretty common for cats to wait until I was right there and then suddenly try to bolt across the street. They couldn't do it before I was too close or wait 2 seconds and do it after I passed. I was the only vehicle on the road. I hit a lot of cats in those few years. Felt bad about the first few until I realized how common it is for vats6to do this. I'd always turn around and see if it was still in the road. Most were gone. There were a few that were still there though. I couldn't let them just suffer in the road like that so I made sure they were finished before I went back about my business.

I always slowed down and tried to avoid hitting them. Most got across the road just fine, but only because I hit the brakes.
