What factors would cause you to make that determination?

My new boss at the time for example took our job for $20,000 less because we offered health insurance and the previous job didn't.

Depends. If the long term prospects are better, I wouldn't automatically say no to a pay cut initially if it's small enough that I can afford it.

20,000 less is pretty significant though.

If you've never worked in management then you might not get this. At some places being a manager or being responsible for lower-level employees just isn't worth the money. Taking the responsibility cut could sometime add years onto your life.

But if what you're saying is he left a similar job for your job (but is NOW the boss) then thats real iffy. Again it could come to the work load or he just really values having healthcare. In that case I probably wouldn't switch because he's losing the 20K plus what they take out of each paycheck, and unless hes super sickly I doubt hes using those benefits. Maybe now as a supervisor hes doing better? lots of things to take into consideration.

Depends on the work and the benefits. Most likely no.

It would have to be an unrealistically sweet deal (like work one week a month or some shit) so basically the answer is no

Yes she left a similar job with fewer responsibilities for this job that had less pay.

Giving up $20,000 for health insurance is ludicrous. For starters, she's probably still paying a fair amount per month for insurance through the company, so $21,500 is probably more accurate. Secondly, if you just went insurance shopping independently, you wouldn't pay anywhere close to that. You can get great insurance with no deductibles for half of that, and decent enough insurance for a third of that.
