Giving up $20,000 for health insurance is ludicrous. For starters, she's probably still paying a fair amount per month for insurance through the company, so $21,500 is probably more accurate. Secondly, if you just went insurance shopping independently, you wouldn't pay anywhere close to that. You can get great insurance with no deductibles for half of that, and decent enough insurance for a third of that.
