Those games were good on capturing the concept of the game, but they were ugly games and glitch ridden. I can't remember what year was the last one I played, 09 or 10, but I couldn't finish an actual game. The computer refused to put a 3rd baseman on the field. Always that spot too, no other position.

Didn't matter who I used or tried to sub in. The computer refused to allow me to play someone there, even if they were there originally.

For example: I could bat 1st as the away team with no problems, but as soon as it was my turn to play defense, it would take someone like Longoria right off the field. Try to put someone in his spot and the game wouldn't let you. You could try and exit out, but it would give you an error message about not having enough players in the field.

I liked ken griffy baseball on the snes
even more on the n64
i don't know what the fucking mechanics are now
mlb 17 had kenny g on it, so i bought that
and 19 was free and it had a retro version in it
it's really realistic with audio and video, i'll give it that

You should check out the Super Mega Baseball games. They're pretty good and have simple mechanics, like the old school baseball titles

I watched someone stream the 19 version a few months back, game is more WRPG then most WRPGs out today.

It amazes me that RPG video games (which have a reputation for being complicated and hard to learn) have become super simple while Sports video games (which have a reputation for being simple and for casual player) have become complex simulations.
