So, my Wii is one of the few systems I have that I don't keep hooked up. I recently unhooked my WiiU, so I need to set one of them up whenever I want to play Wii games.

Anyway, favorite memory? Camping out to get a Wii on launch day. Had to go to wait outside a Walmart at like 6am for them to open (believe it or not, some Walmarts weren't open 24/7 back in 2006) so I could get one. Went home and fell asleep on top of my bed while watching Taxi Driver on TV. Pestered my mom for a solid month to let me have my Wii early (it was a Christmas present and I was a young teen at the time).

Favorite game is a bit harder to decide. The first game I had was Twilight Princess. I still kick myself for getting the Wii version instead of the GCN. The latter is worth more, isn't mirrored, and I would have been able to play it a month earlier than the Wii copy I bought. Still, I loved it.

Strong second is, weirdly, Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles. It's an on-rails shooter retelling of some of the older Resident Evil games and some new story content. I 100% that bad boy back in the day, but never even beat the second game. I blame college for that.

My favorite Wii game probably wasn't even a Nintendo game: I played the shit out of MLB Power Pros 2008 at a time when video games were starting to lose their hold on me. I have fond memories of my hype for Twilight Princess and Brawl, and actually playing Galaxy and Mario Kart, but I don't think I played any as much as that chibi baseball RPG.

Thinking back, a lot of my Wii library was sequels that didn't click with me the way the Gamecube game did: Brawl, Radiant Dawn, Tales of Symphonia, Twilight Princess

I never had a Wii but my buddy did so I played it a bit at his house. He was a pretty casual gamer so he didn't have many games. But playing golf and bowling on Wii Sports was pretty fun while we were hanging out and having some beers.

One-hundred percent agreed! It's definitely a flawed game, but it got hit by the Zelda hate cycle super hard.

I purchased one sometime around release. I could never really get into it. I felt like the motion controls took me out of the game more than put me into it. I ended up selling it to a coworker.

As for most of my Nintendo systems, I primarily bought it for/played smash bros, but twilight princess was great, Mario galaxy was ok, wii sports was surprisingly good, new super Mario bros destroyed friendships, Mario kart was solid, virtual console was cool (gunstar heroes), played guitar hero way more than I want to admit, theres others I'm forgetting but overall it was a pretty damn good system. Still have mine but don't think I'll be playing it again anytime soon

I felt the system was pretty disappointing really. A handful of exceptional games but overall I think it really lacked support in a non-gimmicky way. I also think it looked worse in comparison to what other, more powerful consoles at the time were doing. I remember playing Punch Out around the time Mass Effect was out and I couldn't shake that I was basically playing a prettier version of an NES game while other developers were setting a new standard of world building and exploration. While I've come to really dislike a lot of endlessly open world games, this really marked the console down for my money.

man I keep missing the good systems

The Wii came out towards the end of my highschool career, I think either junior or senior year. I wasn't interested at all; I was kind of done with console vidya games at that point and if there were games I wanted there were still plenty of GameCube games I didnt have

Pretty much my only experence with the Wii is in college as a freshman (iirc) when Brawl came out. I was living on campus and we did play the hell out of that for a while. And my girlfriend at the time liked the Wii her friend had, we'd go over there and drink and do Wii sports (I never really enjoyed it tho lolololol)

While taking a shower this morning, I remembered that the Wii version of Resident Evil 4 exists. I personally consider it the definitive version of the game because the Wiimote is perfect for aiming in the game.

In South Carolina stored opened up at different times at the point due to blue laws.

Some places had them others did not. I went to Toys R US at place that didn't have waited in line for one and then was told that they were out. I think called my sister in a town that stored opened up later and she went in stood in line for me until I (well my mom) could drive the 2 hours to get there. It still melts my hear that she did that for me .

I still use it . I check my weight all the time with the Wii Fit. I am up to like 3500 days. And I am still fat. Go figure .

Best game Zelda TP. I remember playing in my families living room.

When it was coming out, I was in college, it was winter, and I swung by a Target after classes to see how bad the line was, there were enough spots in line that I could have gotten in line and gotten one, but I didn't have a winter coat or anything and would have frozen outside, I knew by the time I grabbed my coat and got back I wouldn't be able to get a spot in line, so I missed out. Then another batch was released and a Target or Best Buy that was like an hour away announced that they'd have some, so a classmate and I got in a car early in the morning and drove all the way there, were in line and would have been able to get one, but there were people in front of us who were there to get an XBox or something, and the store ran out of stock of XBoxes and the people who were going to buy them went and bought Wiis instead, thus depleting the stock before our turn came up, so we got nothing. Finally, I knew another batch was coming out, so I decided to check the local Walmart the night before, they had enough spots in line that if I got in line I was going to be guaranteed to get one, so we lined up in the garden center and stayed there all night until the store was able to sell them at like 6 or 7AM. I bought Kirby: Squeak Squad while in line and played it for a bit, also slept for a little bit as well. That time I finally got my Wii, but I don't even think I was interested in any of the games that were available for it at the time, so I just had Wii Sports for a bit.

My favorite Wii memories:

-camping out on launch day
-saving up enough money in a shoebox, first time Id ever pooled my own cash
-playing Wii Sports and Raving Rabbids with my family the whole first day
-finally turning off the lights and playing Zelda at night
-100%ing Mario Galaxy (or 200%ing or whatever it was)
-Resident Evil 4, that game was perfect with Wiimote
-Checking the Smash Dojo every morning in the computer lab before school

had it, still have it, it's literally in my line of sight right now if I just kinda turn in my chair a little bit

probably my best memory with it is playing through new super mario bros wii, of all things, with my brother. we got it from our parents for christmas one year and spent months just multiplayering through it getting all the star coins (extra hidden items that unlock bonus levels). Then, for some reason, it became a tradition for us to wake up early on christmas morning and just play through the game from scratch, taking all the warps and etc to make it shorter and actually fit in a single morning. Takes about 40-50 minutes.

He recently moved to japan for a year to teach english there which was a pretty big deal since we've lived together our entire lives. Played through one more time the night before his flight as a sort of farewell thing. lots of nostalgia
