I've become interested after I made my character in Secret World Legends an Illuminati Assassin.

Aren't there documentaries explaining all of the origins of the Illuminati, why there are conspiracies about them, etc. I can only find bits and pieces on Wikipedia and Youtube is completely useless. I want to learn more

The Historical Illuminati is supposed to be tied to the modern conspiracy theory Illuminati, being descendants of the historical Illuminati.

Basically a bunch of Jesuits wanted to keep their privilege and power after the Jesuit order was officially disbanded, but they didn't want to pay the Freemasons to join their group.

That would be like if today the Pope said that The Lutherans no longer allowed to exist as a group and then current Lutheran leaderships formed their own group to keep their social presence under a different name.

An actual "documentary" about the Illuminati will comprise about two paragraphs that span a couple months back in the 1700s.

If what you want is the fictional conspiracy theory version of the Illuminati, that's a really deep rabbit hole to go down. And you'll hear a lot of conflicting stuff because it's all mostly things made up by insane people.

The Illuminatus Trilogy by Wilson and Shea and Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco are great stories sort of involving that sort of thing.
