Low end retail jobs will decline you if you specify because they want you available all day errday whenever they need to fill a shift

You're a warm body to them and not a person with needs

Sorry!

Low and unskilled labor positions are near impossible to get if you have an IQ above 70, because who wants to hire someone with the potential to leave for better things than a deadend job? The market is saturated with people seeking such work, and employers can and will reject anyone for even the most trivial of reasons. Getting a degree won't help. You'll overqualify yourself out of even more jobs, and anything in your field will be full of lifers, or outsourced to somewhere you wouldn't even visit with an armed entourage in most cases.

Two best tips I can give:
LEARN A TRADE.
DO NOT LEARN CHINESE.

I know of a couple of rental car companies that have drivers that work on weekends moving cars around. It might only pay around minimum wage but it has flexibility.

Retailers tend to employ a lot of high school and college kids with that same schedule. It can be hard for them to find day shift people.

Otherwise most jobs tend to have a lot of applicants so... it's really a numbers game, especially when it comes to unskilled jobs since those have fewer reqs to weed out candidates.

Depends on the company. Some specifically have trouble getting people to work weekends because most people don't like working them. Otherwise yeah, they want as much availability as possible especially so they can schedule people as replacements at the last minute.

Completely untrue, especially considering most people working those jobs have an IQ greater than 70. Unless you have a personality defect, a lot of low and unskilled labor positions specifically want people with higher IQs in the same way that a lot of jobs nowadays which historically haven't required a college degree (nor need one) will look for people with a degree.

And a lot of people with degrees don't always have the mobility to leave for another job given the market. Places like Starbucks and Subway have plenty of college graduates who have worked those low-end jobs for years.

When I worked at Walmart, they were desperate for overnight and weekend workers. I applied for overnight and got hired so fast I didn't even have an interview or drug test.

Almost any trade will pay a good salary and make a much better career than working in retail. Trades are jobs like plumbers, carpenters, electricians, HVAC, etc. There are far too many trades to actually list. Just google for trades and find something that might interest you. You don't need to go to a traditional four year university to learn a trade, but you will probably need to go to a trade school.

Not to say it's not a thing but no job I've worked has had increased hiring during holidays. Sure there'd be extra shifts but they were filled by current workers.

And because trade workers are notoriously unreliable, you just need to be reasonably competent while showing up sober to rise above the pack =p

HVAC.

Not every person is going to need a science professor in their life. The work that a 5-star chef puts in is impressive, but not sought out by everyone.

You know which commodity it is that Americans use most outside of electricity and indoor plumbing? Heating and cooling. Everyone loves a good working heater and AC.
