Almost any trade will pay a good salary and make a much better career than working in retail. Trades are jobs like plumbers, carpenters, electricians, HVAC, etc. There are far too many trades to actually list. Just google for trades and find something that might interest you. You don't need to go to a traditional four year university to learn a trade, but you will probably need to go to a trade school.


And because trade workers are notoriously unreliable, you just need to be reasonably competent while showing up sober to rise above the pack =p

Not to say it's not a thing but no job I've worked has had increased hiring during holidays. Sure there'd be extra shifts but they were filled by current workers.


It's really a big-box retail thing.
