I think people are really starting to realize how damaging this game is to your brain, no matter what position you play unless you're like a kicker or something.

And all the newer rules being put in the game to protect player safety, while good for the players, probably detract from viewer experience. Especially the older ones who miss when you could literally launch yourself at people helmet first.

Also all the play reviewing can really fuck up the flow of the game, and still no one knows what a catch is or not.

Weird. I thought turning the NFL into a political quagmire would be good for it.

Does this count as get woke go broke? Or does it not count because it's a sensitive subject for the right?

Yeah its the kneeling ruining the NFL, and totally not refs being confused about consitutes a catch or a roughing the passer penalty with these game changes. And greenzone is a genius idea along with more commerical breaks or stopping the game to let an ad air while the camera is showing the players looking around

Exactly

What I don't understand is why people want to listen to the advice of a football player who isn't even very intelligent or good at the game. Wasn't he like 4-13 before he got benched? Usually to be influential as an athlete, you have to be good... and KP is just garbage.

Those who want to attribute the NFL's ratings decline solely to politics should note that its decline here is significantly less than that of NASCAR
http://awfulannouncing.com/fox/fox-nascar-viewership-dropped-19-percent-from-2017-29-percent-from-2016.html
It's about on par with the viewership decline for the MLB All-Star game, where as I recall they held a pre-game ceremony honoring purple heart recipients
http://www.sportsmediawatch.com/2018/07/mlb-all-star-game-ratings-record-low/
MLS's All-Star game was down much more (likely a result of the matchup, but...)

To be fair, it wasn't a great game. I still watched most of it tho.

People who are actually football fans will keep watching football. I said this last year. They don't give a shit about the politics surrounding it. They just watch the game for the entertainment it still provides.

Foles wasn't hot last night.

Without Wentz and Jeffery, the Eagles offense wasn't as dynamic or exciting. Having Jeffery out there is huge because it can open up the whole playbook.

Besides that, a lot of these players on both teams barely played preseason. They were all rusty as hell.

Tbh, this is the only reason I started watching NFL again, and I live in Steeler country.
I had stopped watching for the better part of four or five years, in favor of European football.

Then when people at work dragged me into a fantasy league last year I started watching again.

That's it for me, really. Clearly I don't want anyone to get concussions or be seriously hurt or paralyzed or something, but there are so many new rules in the name of safety that it takes a lot of the fun out of it. Not just that they can't do certain types of plays, but when they *do* have their head at the wrong angle, then you have to deal with a penalty and it just slows the game down and obviously is super annoying if its against your team.

many random rules that who knows what the fuck is going on?

holding calls.....the most random rule ever that seems to be called specifically to stop momentum or give momentum to another team. it seems to exist just to the refs can control the game. theres literally holding at the line of scrimmage during every play.

no one knows what a catch is

questionable refs

constant reviews, half of which they don't get right.

let me repeat....WHAT IS A CATCH!!!

commercials.

commercials.

terrible commentary.

26 accepted penalties. I remember one play with off-setting penalties, so 28+ penalties, including two BS roughing-the-passer calls, one no-call on obvious DPI, and, oh yeah, a mind-numbingly predictable catch-that-wasn't-a-catch-for-undefinable-reasons. Oh, and the game was pretty bad outside that, but that has nothing to do with the fact the game was delayed(ending around 12:30AM EST) and the reffing being horrible.
