I thought this might be about HL2 Ep3 or Half Life 3 or something. I don't know what I was thinking, Valve doesn't even make games anymore.

I don't give a shit about Half Life, or frankly any game this company has made since Portal

But Valve is actively doing things to kill Microsoft's monopoly on personal computers. This is an amazing thing for people, even if they don't know it.

This is seriously about Linux?!

Did we go back in time 15-20 years when Linux was still sort of (but not really even then) relevant?

Nah that's (currentyear + 1). But seriously, anything that lets people actively move away from Windows (With 'games' being by far the most common excuse followed by Office and Photoshop) is an incredibly good thing.

Yeah, Valve is way more evil than Microsoft. Microsoft has never hurt me like Valve has.

Seriously, where's Episode Three, it has been a decade.

I mean, Valve has essentially a monopoly, or at least total ubiquity with PC gaming in the way Microsoft does with OS.

But Valve has also monetized gaming via the their hats economy in a way that is superrrr gross.

I say this as a person with over 1000 hours in one of their big hat games.

Was hoping this would be about a new Left 4 Dead game. Do these guys even make games still? I feel like Portal 2 is the last thing I heard of they made and that is like 7-8 years old now or something.

Valve making it more viable to bail on Windows entirely before Windows 7 becomes unusable is nice

But on the other hand Steam was that thing that I didn't want to use that strongarmed its way into forcing people to use it with no alternative before Windows 10 tried to.

Valve really is no better than Microsoft they just have less of a market stranglehold to abuse.

If they announced that they were just gonna stop making any games for Linux basically nothing would change at the bottom line other than bad PR.

Well it could become gaming world relevant if this pans out is why it's interesting

A lot of gaming folk are tech savvy enough to get Linux functioning on their PC they just choose not to because Linux doesn't run a bunch of relevant games and it's generally more work to set up even when it does.

If Steam makes a bunch more games work and makes the process more streamlined in general that could be a big deal for a lot of people. Not enough that Microsoft is going to go out of business or anything absurd like that, but enough to be a noteworthy convenience for a decent amount of people. Nothing wrong with that.

But it's not the best gaming company in the world for this. It's just one bad dude smacking another bad dude.
