A couple are having an argument and the woman slaps the man, and a few seconds later the man slaps the woman back. At this point a second woman intervenes, who only saw the man slap the woman, and slaps the man for slapping the woman. Then a third woman intervenes, who has also only seen the unfolding situation from when the man slapped the woman and slaps the first woman as well as the second; the second woman slaps her back. A second man then intercedes, who has seen the entire fracas from the beginning, and slaps only the women, because he has deemed them the aggressors. A third man intercedes and also slaps only the women, but simply because he likes slapping women (in a non-malicious way) and assumed that the slapping was consensual; he also slaps the first man because he mistook him for a woman, but does not slap the third woman because he thinks she is pretty. A fourth woman arrives and slaps everyone - she claims that she did so completely by accident, and is later found to have a degenerative muscle conditions that causes uncontrollable arm spasms, but there is no way to prove her intentions. A fifth woman intercedes and slaps the third woman for no particular reason and is consequently slapped by everyone present. A fourth man, who happens to be the fifth woman's husband, then slaps everyone in retaliation; the second and third man, as well as the fourth woman slap him back.

By this point the police have been called and a police officer finally arrives. Because of unseasonably cold weather, they are wearing a balaclava that makes it impossible to determine their gender and their muffled voice could easily be a deep-voiced woman or a somewhat effeminate man. Everyone involved is at this point sobbing or groaning in pain and, in a curious twist, their moans are form a surprisingly good acapella rendition of "Silent Night". The officer arrests everyone and gives them all one last slap for good measure which, in an incredibly odd coincidence, changes the song they are singing to the melody of "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead", from the acclaimed, academy award-winning classic "The Wizard of Oz" (1939 version). The group eventually decides to put their hitherto unseen talents to work and form a Musical Revue. They thank the officer for their intervention, and none wish to press charges; however, due to an obscure law in the area they are arrested in (Florida), one person (and only one) must be charged with a crime that carries a minimum sentence of six months in prison, with no associated criminal record.

You are the prosecutor who will be overseeing the case; who do you charge? You can assume all of the slaps were delivered using the exact same force and no injuries resulted. The slaps were all delivered across the left side of the recipients face, except for the second man who delivered his slaps across the clothed-buttocks of his targets in the manner of a spanking (assume the blows landed roughly centred on the right butt-cheek).

I don't know how it came up but my partner and I had this very discussion recently-in her words, it really is a case of "women are strong and independent until they want to be pampered and doted on".
If we're going to have gender equality then we have to think of it in terms of physical advantage, not gender. If I decide to take a verbal argument with another guy and turn it physical then I have to be prepared for the outcome. If he's bigger and stronger than me and I get my ass kicked then onlookers will most likely not intervene-"He knew what he was doing" etc. So why aren't women being afforded the same responsibility for their actions? Are we stuck in the 1920s, still thinking that they couldn't possibly know what they're doing? Show them some respect, people.

She's obviously antagonistic to slap both parties. She's well aware of the situation as much as I am.

The third woman is the one person so far who has been slapped by absolutely everyone involved so far, so it's strange they would slap back unless they absolutely wanted to because they enjoy slapping. This is where the third man looks more innocent, and I trust the narrator less.
