I did at my old house when I was like 10-13. We never had wifi and only had dial-up, even though this was like 2008, and I really wanted wifi to get online with Pokemon Pearl. So for some reason I was just checking to see if I could get any wifi and I noticed I could just barely pick up wifi from the neighbor across the street and got hella excited, and I remember the first thing i did was a trade involving a Scyther, I don't remember if i gave it or received it.

And then later I realized I could get a signal on the Wii from my room, and then that was the first time I ever had access to Youtube that wasn't on dial-up; and I loved it. My neighbor knew too and didn't mind at all, she even let me and my cousin in her house one day just so we could use her internet on my DS and his PSP.

Wish I still had a good wifi source, we moved out to the middle of nowhere and all internet here is satellite and absolute shit, and they all apparently added some bullshit filter to what you can download at certain speeds so now it takes me 24 hours to download a 2 GB game. So I have to either take my shit to a friends house or use a hotpot on a phone to get literally anything related to Steam or PS4. Switch files somehow aren't affected for some reason.

So what about you guys, Ever do it, and why?

Yes. Namely, before using a phone to go online was a reasonable option, and my own wifi decided it didn't feel like working. I can't be the only one to do it when their own wifi was acting up.

No, although partly because everybody nearby used some form of encryption.

No. I've just never needed to. I've always had my own internet.

I have before. It was brief, though. Before everyone knew about encrypting their Wi-Fi. But we had ours not too long after, anyway... I would try to switch sometimes when I felt mine wasn't going fast enough, though.

How old were you? Also, it's kind of funny to use the church Wi-Fi to do it...

I remember back in like 2006 or 2007, before most people had wifi, I used to go over to a friend's house to play yugioh very regularly. One day we were playing yugioh world championship 2007 or something on DS and we decided to drive to McDonald's to get food (my older brother was the only one who had a license). On the way, someone figured out that the neighbor down the street had unlocked wifi, so from that day on we would walk down the street and steal their wifi to play yugioh online while standing on the side of the road lol. It was so dumb in retrospect, but it was so fun at the time.

When I was 13 I would walk down the street until I found a network.

Even back then everyone had passwords. If only I knew what I know now, I'd just try "admin" on all of them. Actually, I think I did. Nvm.

This, I've never seen a wifi point that wasn't password protected.

I even protected my own central wifi with mac-adresses and disabled all of the other ones.

My girl uses her neighbor's WiFi. They shared for awhile, splitting the cost. She eventually got her own, then.lost it because she couldn't afford it anymore. Turns out the neigh or never changed his password. So she went back to using it without telling him. I ocassionally use it while I'm over there. But I mostly stick to my mobile data. I have enough that I never run out.

never found anyone dumb enough to not have it passworded. though I had a friend when he didn't have internet for awhile he'd go park at this particular gas station and leech off someone's wifi just to keep his computer games updated so when he did get internet back he wouldn't have to sit through a ton of updates.
