Nope, cause my over-level-70 Blastoise was destroying everything in it's path. Also because I beat Sabrina before ever watching the anime.
When I first played Pokemon, I never even considered type advantage. An overleveled Blastoise will destroy most things in it's path. Poor Brock. He never stood a chance. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I NEVER battled against Sabrina, let alone beat Red/Blue.

I got into the anime late when they were already past Sabrina. By the time they got back to that in reruns I had already beaten her

I don't know who Sabrina is, or when Haunter shows up, but if there were Haunters available before you reached her, then yes.

I probably did but not because of the anime. But I was in middle school and used a Drowzee/Hypno, so I'm sure I figured out that it wasn't actually good against psychic pretty quick.
